You may also be interested to know, in December '03 issue of Fast Fours Magazine (
www.fastfours.com.au) there will be a Two Channel Amplifier Sound Quality shootout.
The 10 amplifiers on test will be the highest power rating offered by manufacturers for under 1K.
Details of how the test is being performed cannot be released as yet.
Just some of the manufacturer's taking part in the test:
Audison
Viper
Alpine
Clarion
Pioneer
Schneider
Precision Power
and a handful more
Look forward to this one.

what about the SPL test results? I thought FastFours readers were more interested in what it looks like and how loud it is anyways

And if I did a SPL Test people would ask whens the SQ test!
Aren't people sick of reading what power amps make, as it's done time and time again.
There are quite a few sq enthusiasts out there too

The thing that craps me with that magazine is that some tests are done at 12Volts and some at 13.8volts, so you can't compare amps with each other.

yeh power ratings suck. I wanna see which is louder in a car with 1 car battery, normal persons stereo

How about you test the US Amps 2000x/2000, I bought mine for under $1000
Hehe, nah I can't wait to see the results, let's hope the results won't be biased though... Like that guy from Hot4's and how he seems to be pushing Alpine like no tomorow...

You really should be careful what you say.
I am personally responsible for every piece of audio content that is published in Fast Fours. If you can show me an issue in the last 14 months that has test results to do with power ratings then I would like to see it.
That's one of the problems with this website. People posting completely incorrect information that is not fact!

Nothing I have published has been biased, and I have built my reputation on that approach. Partly the reason why I have no problems obtaining equipment from manufacturers to perform reviews and features.
If you have read any of my previous material you would realise this.

I hear the test is being done in a car so the power voltage is not an issue.

Are you gonna be testing the new Orion amps?

Marc, I don't care if the conclusions were related to the power rating or not. If they weren't why post power outputs, obviously people buy the magazine to see what power an amp puts out. If they buy it for SQ reasons, your 5&6 channel test mentioned nothing about the SQ of the amp, Orion didn't even get a conclusion. As for the last 2 channel test all you mention are the features of the amp, not how it sounded. So work out how you are going to test them.
SQ: write about how they sounded
SPL: How loud they went
Power: How much they made at various (consistent) Volts
I have copies of car stereo mags going back to 1985, and it is interesting to compare power outputs.
April 03 5&6 channel amps tested at 12V
Nov/Dec 03 On All Fours, tested at 13.8v
All I am saying is look at it from the consumers point of view, who buy your magazine and want to make a informed decision on where and how to spend the hard earned cash.

Dude, I'm note quite sure which pills you were on, but I haven't performed or published any amp test previously.
I think you might be a tad confused.
