Iam in th process of plaaing a new system, and was wondering if anyone could recommend a few different subs to have a listen to. The front stage consists of Infinity 3 way splits (reference), with the woofer being 6". So I was thinking of 2 10", it to go into a falcon, in the boot, and probably front facing from the very back of the boot (ie towball end).
Any suggestions?? I am sort of budgeting around $800 of the two, but may modify this budget it there is something around $400 thats incredable - is this a reasonable budget?? I havent really looke into subs for SQ before, helped a mate by a single 12", but he just wanted to make noise more than music.
Thanks for the help,
Mike

This must be the hardest question to answer.
SQ is a very subjective thing and could lead to a big thread on brand x sounds better than brand y because..... It really depends on what SQ is to you coz youre the one who is going to listen to them.
Best thing is to take your time. Importantly make a refrence off something you want the car system to sound like eg a High end home HI FI system. Go to a sound off, listen around to what comes close to your refrence and make a list from there. With a budget of $400 per sub I doub't you would have trouble finding something you like!!
Also big subs do not mean slow and sloppy so don't be afraid of the 15's coz you will be surprised. You might need the extra bass especially in a big falcon.
Big subs don't have to move as far to produce the same volume ... less cone movement = less distrortion as the voice coil stays within the magnetic field = more control the amp has over the sub.

BUT if you are still interested in some subs to check out. The IDQ and even better the IDMAX subs from Image dynamics ane worth a look

. They keep up with fast bass lines extremely well and get decently loud.

yeah, go the IDQs, i was extremely happy with my IDQv2 12 inch subs. they played loud and clear, and handled more power than it is rated for. Go the IDQs!
Another IDQ fan is Icebreaker, he just installed his into his car. I think that he is happy with them too.

Take a listen to:
* Boston Acoustics Generators or competitors
* Signat ESW - plain looking but nice sounding, and bloody cheap.
* Peerless - New home driver with BIG Xmax
* MTX - Thunder 6000 sound great in a small sealed box
* JL's - always work well, but a little pricey compared with MTX, and less power handling.

Jeez Phil, what with this take a listen crap. Cant you just tell him what to buy. Its not Ok for myself or Craig to say take a listen, when comparing MTX to Rubicons, and here you are, saying the same thing here. I guess contradiction is OK in Phil land.
What happened to the land of Phil. Has it been over thrown or something. I mean what a hippie thing to say and what, no hug thrown in

Hi rolli, the SQ in a Xfalcon sedan(that I found)was to have the subs facing fowards firing thru the ski hole(if u have one!)and if the box is ported you need to have the port firing into the ski hole too,the only prob with this is if u have 5 people in the car.

must go the peerless, its the best sounding driver i've heard in a long while, they're relatively cheap too. These have double magnet, vented VC, cast basket, large Xmax, oversized rubber surround, kevlar interwoven into paper cone.
very, very nice!
