Full Version: SQ freaks- help designing box for S12L7?

Well hopefully I will be in possesion of a 2001 S12L7 kicker square sub in a week or so. (thanks Scott!:P)

I am not that interested in SPL, so can someone recommend a box to maximise the SQ i can get out of this baby?

I've heard someone mention that the recommended kicker box sizes may be a tad on the small size.

Help?

I have no preference between ported or sealed, hopefully sealed tho, cos that will be heaps easier to build
Bassaholic
I'd go for 1.5 cu/ft (net - after displacements)

Check my sig, it works a treat.
If it is a S12L72 that is.....
If a S12L74 (dual 4 ohm) go with bassaholic's suggestion, 1.5 cu ft sealed. They are quite different drivers.

Rear fill - stockies with power from HU (not that they get any)

Sub - Kicker S12L72 in 75 litre 30Hz slot-ported display box.

I'm happy if you use my alignment but just make it look different

Oh, and it was NOT a simple box to build....

Hey critter, any more details on your box?

Yeah if it wasnt an easy box to build then i'm out

Is 1.5cubes also enough for the dual 2 ohm?

And how much does the sub itself displace?

If you haven't seen a pic of my box, than I'll email you one if you want. Awesome There was a post a couple weeks ago with one. Not simple, very sophisticated design as sub boxes go....

The sub displaces 2.51 litres. Will be fine in the 1.5 cu ft nett sealed box.

In my VS, im running two dual 4ohm solobarics in the ultra tiny box..
0.88cf sealed, per sub
And the bass is clear and sharp, altho with my box, the clearances are tight between the magnet and back/bottom of the box..

If you wanted, why not go by the spec sheet of the sub, that should come with it and that tells you of the box volumes.. I did when i built my box..

With stinger cabling and Odyssey power
136.6dB isnt loud enough!! I want more!!

I havent yet got the sub

I did think about the manufacturers recommendations, but wanted to see some real world ppls opinions

Anyway thanks critter for your info, and i think i might have seen the box on another post. Is it the big black one with like chrome screws and huge slot port?

Hes box is the same colour of hes car.. A silvery colour and it has no visable screws and its rounded off..
Very nice!
