Im just curious. Is it neccessary to high pass splits or are they ok as long as they have a network crossover system?

they should be HP'd as well, as the passive Xover supplied with splits, will only LP the mid, not BP it. (in my experience)
so you will get subbass frequencies to your mid, which will reduce it's power handling, as it will distort earlier at lower frequencies.

Yep the HP is essential for power handling and in so doing reduce the total cone movement which is a plus for low distortion.
Fiddle about with your settings/system tune/filter slopes to get it right.
And give the front splits a chance to make good mid-bass by deadening and sealing the front doors. The transition to the sub is better (smoother and better-balanced "weight", gives you strong up-front presence.
