Well with a new car(VS Statesman) in the pipelines i guess its time to rethink the stereo. Im looking more towards a SQ setup thistime rather than my SQL setup in my falcon. What im looking at getting is the following. Any comments/reccomendations/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

HU
Alpine 7969R (allready have)

Fronts
MBQuart RSD216 Refrence splits mounted in kicks(allready have)

Midbass
Morel HCW8's (mabye 2 a side)

Subs
2xOrion HCCA15D

Front Amp
Orion XTR600.4 (allready have this)
- Front channels into the Quarts (highpassed)
- rear chanels into Morel8's (using inbuilt badnpass crossover)

Sub Amp
2x Orion 800.2 (Hopefully i can get these 2nd hand)
-Give each sub 800wrms@4ohm.

sounds pretty damn good to me, i dunno about the HCCA15's though, i didn't think they were designed with SQ in mind, but i've never heard them to comment.4 8" drivers up front is pretty extreme, you'd wanna make your doors REALLY solid!!!
and seal them very well too.
good luck

A couple of thing i would change are:
Only 1 set of 8" Morel drivers you realy won't need 2 pairs of them, and if i am correct i believe those subs are 15" which i think will not be very good for SQ.
A single 12 would be all you realy need maybe a Focal utopia, of course 2 12's won't hurt either, i just find that 15's won't be good enough for good SQ.

Like said previously, you will find that you HCCA15D's are suited to SPL. But they are still worth a bit of $ so sell em and get some SQ subs

i was lead to beleive at some stage that HCCA's were designed to provide exclenet SQ at high volume levels. Well it was eithe 2 HCCA's or 2x 12"IDMAX.....and yeah 4x8's was just a bit of a joke.

from ym recollections, the IDMAX was designed to maintain SQ at high SPL, not a pure SQ driver, but a good compromise.
ask icebreaker.

Can't you go with the 15's and have the best of both worlds? That way when you run in SQ comps or just want to have a listening session you can re-adjust bass settings so it isn't overwhelming. Can that be done? Just re-configure the bass?

yeah you can turn the sub control down, but if you want to compete a 15" woofer puts you in superstreet class.
and putting in a 15 doesn't instantly make it loud, not to mention they are harder to get a tight clean sound out of.

I know its hard to get tight clean bass out of two 15's but i'm taking the challenge up. My system in progress will include two 15" beasts. So much for SQ although i still think the system as a whole will sound awesome.

Yeah, im after a nice smooth setup, one which sounds clean, linear, punchy, and yet will still beable to crack high 130dB in a statesman. This is my reasoning behind mabey using subs like IDMAX, HCCA, as they offer quite good SQ yet can still get punnishingly loud. However dedicated SQ subs (read: Eclipse Ti, Focal Utopia, Velodyne, IDQ) i dont think will provide me with a satisfying ammount of bass, no matter how clean it is. Does anyone beg to difffer?(im serious, people with experence with normal+Pure SQ subs, advice and comments on how loud/punchy SQ subs can get would be appreciated)

Hmm looks more like an SQL setup really.

Well I see no reason why an SQ set-up isn't poss with 15s (Marc R is one example of how it can work...)
In fact the yanks reckon it is the ONLY way to go for SQ, but I don't agree ... there's a "thousand" ways.

For SQ tho with 15s I'm looking at 8s in the front ideally and lowish HP/LP (65Hz?). And NOT 2 pairs of 8s...

The system as you describe it ought to make some nice music. Good front door instal and a carefully designed sub enclosure, well made, are the keys IMO.

Welsome to SQ, we have "enclosures", SPL has boxes and walls....
