Hoping to get the new front stage in this weekend . 1" soft-dome tweet, 3" mid & 5.25" woofer.. The 3" mids are in the factory location in the dash (uptop, either side) 'cos its a perfect fit and the woofers are going in the doors 'cos thats the only place they fit.

Ideally I'd make custom kicks and mount all 3 in there, but thats not an option. So, where should I mount the tweets ? In the door up high, in the door near the woofer or in the kick pods ? I've seen SQ Magna installs using all three options.. Imaging & staging is the name of the game..

If it makes any difference.. tweet = Rockford Series 1 soft-dome fluid cooled, mid = Rockford Punch paper, woofer = SoundStream Exact 5.2, Xovers = Rockford TX Passive, driven off VNET. Rear fill is Kenwood 6" co-ax.

long wire and bluetak trick, all cars, all ppl are different, personally i dont hear a great diff between them, but in saying that i would keep close as poss to the 3's

are the 5's gonna be enuf midbass upfront?

Yeah, it's gonna be a bit of trial-and-error with the blutack or you might just get lucky quickly....
Probably you are gonna find that as Fumpa suggests the tweeter is going to integrate better when closer to the mid, and aimed.

Would also strongly suggest sealing and deadening doors to give some mid-bass transition to that tough Orion

Two rolls of Flashtac ready and waiting, Sir .

Problem with the blutac & long leads idea is the tweets (thanks to their ingenious design) require to be assembled into a mount in order to work.. undo the mount screws, the cone comes out, and the screws are too long to bolt the cone back on without the mounts.. and the mounts are bloody heavy.
In the doors near the mid's'll be the goer methinks. Thanks for the input guys

PS. Yes I do realise 5"s are a bit anemic.. but I'm "trying something out"

for what its worth, my experiments in my own magna (current model) shows the dash tops to be poor locations for tweeters.

if i were you id try and keep the tweets next to the mid-range, rather than the mid-bass, where they will blend and integrate properly. only problem is your midrange is on dash top, getting back to the problem with primary tweeters up near glass. with tweeters on the dash you will likely find that each tweeters position will be easily localised with the corners of the sound stage be overly pronounced. put them near the mid-bass, and you will find images stretched between the door and dash, moving about at difference frequencies.

dont forget, when doing the 'bluetac-and-see' process, you dont have to be using the actual drivers your going to install - you can sue cheaper 'test' drivers, as you arent evaluating the spectral balance, tonality or 'liveness' of the system, just the staging and imaging effects caused by each location.

all the best fellow mitsu' maggot believer!
