Hey!
The TS Specs of my sub are below.
My main concern is transient response! Followed by linearity throughout bandwidth (smoothness I guess).

I'm gonna wire it at 2 or 4 ohms for the car, and 8 ohms for the house.

I was thinking an Aperiodic method, but no good for home use I believe, sealed box or Transmission line enclosures seem to be the next best ----- HELP!

well then I'll reply, to myself:

I could stick it in a sealed box so it's fast, but the gain will be pretty low, or I could stick it in the recommended box and the gain will be good, but it will be slower (read double kicks will be sloppy) or I could spend 20 hours building and tuning a TL box.

Sound about right? Anyone got any ideas?

As the recommendation suggests, this driver is best used in a ported enclosure. Will be very "lean" in a sealed enclosure.

Best leave a transmission line alone too as will make for an almighty large enclosure, very complex to build and HEAVY. Also quite inefficient, needing LOTS of power (you lose ALL of the rear output in a T-Line).

The recommended size and tune is actually 34Hz by my calcs and is not too bad. I would prob go a bit lower for max smoothness, say 30-32 Hz which leaves you with a bit of port length to deal with.

IMO go with a slot port you can "bend" around the box which will also allow more port area to keep air speed in the port down.
Another observation is that 250 watts is fine but the practical limit with this driver ported.

It's not going to be "huge" down low but I think it should sound pretty nice (smooth, linear and quite tight) tho'

Hope that helps.

Thanks!

Hey, so should I line the box with anything to stop standing waves (or otherwise) and should I stuff it with anything? What would be the effect?

I've got some 19mm wood from some huge old home stereo speakers.... I wonder, would this be suitable, or is solid wood too resonant for sub-enclosures?

I don't think this discussion should be in sq...... general is more fitting

Depending on what solid wood it is that you have.....if you want to use it, then line the enclosure with bitumous "tar pads" to make the panels "dead", they can otherwise be a bit lively. Brace the box well.

Some dacron or fibre-fill around the box can aid smoothness.

Until we get a more formal definition (coming soon I believe) on what the SQ forum has as its parameters, if you are looking to achieve SQ with it, then for now it looks good here

how about an aperiodic setup? .. the specs for that sub seems to suite this setup quite well.

Supervt - you can't really do an aperiodic setup because it is for the home..
