For mine i selected one for a 98 magna, it's a bit a bit $$$ but it's what i dream of owning.

Either an eclipse HU or a JVC SH99R
Focal Utopia 165W3's(6"3-ways)
2xFocal Utopia 33WX's(13" subs)
Focal Polyflex 165HC's(6"2-ways for rear fill)
Pheonix Gold Ti Amps, i used to know which ones but i forgot

Here's the thing, with all the dream systems flying about ( and insult no-one, 'cos I want half of 'em!!) I bet there would be few of us that would willingly, if handed $40,000, would spend $30,000 on a car audio, AND IF WE DID, would be able to say: "Well, that was worth $30,000........

Fine line between improvement and overkill!.

Having said that:

Denon Japan-only release HU (more expensive than the CD700!!!)

Twin set of Boston Acoustics Pro 6.5's for front stage.

Phoenix Gold Anniversary MS series amps: take your pick, i'm going to be happy with anything you choose..........

Titanium series subs. Once again, knowck yourself out.

Hmm, it's funny how trends go with threads like these over time (it'd be good to go back 6 months and read a thread on the same topic and see the difference in opinions).

Anyways - for mine (haven't put too much thought into it - so subject to change)

HU - Pioneer DEX-P9R with DEQ-P9 processor.

Front stage - fully active setup with prob Morel Supremo Tweeters - and 2 x Focal Utopia midbass drivers in the door.
Powered by a nice and powerful Class A amp.

Rear fill - hmm, prob just a nice set of 2 ways (but nothing overpowering)

Subs - hard to tell - but prob continue along the Focal line with Utopia Subs.

Amps - I'd probably have to look at Soundstream top of the line gear. And also add in a lot of expensive cabling.

as most know, my system is constantly undergoing upgrades and changes. alpine amps are currently installed. but in the near future these will give way to 3 audison VRx's. and after installing my dyn 2-ways, morel supremo's will go in for treble duties and an active front stage. probably need to consider a 3-way front stage too.
