the focal 165K polykevlar's are an excellent set of splits and definitely known for SQ. they seem to have come down in price recently, as their RRP used to be $612, and people loved them back then.
you must audition any speakers you wish to buy. don't just go by peoples' opinion as their taste and music will differ greatly. but of not, many people dislike the focal tweeters as being 'too bright', so bear this in mind. but they are otherwise very defined and natural, with decent midbass.
the xfire i think i mentioned in your other thread, i expect to have a more 'in ya face' sound, but i've never listened to them.
others to audition:
*boston accoustic RC620 rally's and more expensive pro's
*hertz HSK165
*dls, alpine, morel, etc

A good mate of mine is running 165k's in his Peugeot 306 with a 12" Type R in a sealed enclosure. Works a treat (now).
The 165k's (in both our opinions) can be a bit shy in the mid-bass unless they are well installed. Sealing the front doors and deadening them has made a huge improvement, integration is good and wide-range performance top class.
If you are a bit sensitive to harshness in the top end, I'd offer that this is not a problem in Al's car even tho' his tweets are mounted higher than I would normally recommend, so the 165k's are probably an excellent choice

Yeah - would have to agree with this. I sound deadned my doors before I put them in and have nice mid-bass (some more would be good - but that needs more power) - but have heard from others that they do lack in the mid-bass department until you do some sort of sound deadening.
But yeah - as Shiny said - go audition a few sets before deciding on what to buy. I could tell you I love the Focal gear - but hey - I have it thru my car so am slightly biased

Audition as many differnt speakers as you can - that way you will make the "best" purchase, according to your ears. Go check out the DLS range (available from Car Toys). $499 will get you a set of Reference R6 6.5" splits, and a bit more mulah will get you into a set of Magnesiums.
