i was browsing thru the on line store n noticed morel hybrids in stock. i have heard good things about these splits but have never actually auditioned a set.

does anyone have any 1st hand experience regarding the SQ of morel drivers, thinking of a 3 way front stage. any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks, daniel.

hee, hee, just about every thread in this SQ forum talks about morel's.

yeah, they're very popular because they're excellent SQ speakers. both the hybrid's and dotech's.

marc and icebreaker both run full 3-way active morel front stages, using some of these drivers. damn sweet setups.

but do a 'search' for morel topics and you should find that all their speakers are highly commended.

so what exact model speakers for this proposed 3-way setup? and off what amp?

good luck

u guessed it, i was thinking of full active 4" or 5" (by the way which size would everyone suggest???), backed up by probably the 8" midbass (maybe the 10s just to be different)... thanks for the advice everyone...

ahhhhh...the swoit morel frontstage

I am at the moment building and installing the pods for these exact 4"s (hybrids) and i am coupling these with the HCW8's runnin full active

yummm

anyway...in regards to suggesting what speakers you get its up to you...if the 4"s are available and in your price range then go for them (if ya like the looks of them)

experience...like shiny said icebreaker and marc rushton have had experience with these...however..in the near future if you are at a Sydney CAA meet then i should be able to give ya an audition of the 4"s no problems...

I use a 3 way Morel front stage and so far and very impressed with the results running it semi-active.
I'm using HCW8, CDM54 and supremo tweets.

Say Pope what x-over are you using to run your 3 ways?
BarmE what amp are you running yours off?
I was going to run a set of Dotechs up front but now im thinkin of running a set of HCW8's and a set of Hybrid 100mm splits as mids/tweets.
What other then Audisons 6 ch are out there or do you think a 2.250 running passive would be the go as has been suggested?
Appreciate your thoughts all.

if you're pairing a set of small (4") splits with an 8", the best economical route would be to run semi-active off a 4-channel.

that is, retain the passive xover supplied with the splits and run this set off 2 channels. then run the 8" off the other 2 channels. next step upwards in cost would be fully active with 6 channels.

running off 2 channels alone would dictate a new custom 3-way passive xover. probably requires lots of testing to get the xover points and volume-balance correct. so wouldn't be cheap either.

if funds permit, consider an audison LRx4.300 or VRx4.300.

good luck

I'm running a 2way Infinity Kappa cross over... purely cos I had them sitting around.
It's just a temporary thing until I get the other amp installed.
