I currently have a 2 way setup with mid woofer in VS pods and tweets in stock dash locations. To my ears the staging seems pretty good

But I'm curios as to whether I could get even better staging by mounting the tweets in the kick panels angled up to my head? What do you guys think? I plan to do this anyway when I upgrade my splits, along with modifying the pods to angle the mids a bit more toward me, but is it worth doing it with what I have now?
Any advice welcome :

there can definitely be some benefit, and if you have the time now, would be worth experimenting.
however, in the end, a different set of splits may have slightly different tweeter on/off-axis characteristics that prefer a slightly different angle to your current tweets. as such, i wouldn't advise building some intricate kickpanels only to have them suboptimal in the future.
but, as superVT suggested, you may learn something from trying things with your current setup. even if it's to realise that a lot or little work is involved, that it makes a big or no difference, and that you can plan the construction process for the new splits.
good luck

with the splits in my g/f's car, tweeters sounded shocking, bad stage image on dash, moved to kicks, improved muchly. perfect image from drivers seat. drivers side tweeter fires towards firewall slightly, passenger side midly towards interior light. all in a lanos

having tweets only in the kicks, with the midranges further back in the doors, _may_ produce seperation and sound thin. given that youve already seperated the tweet from the mid up high, its worth a try and will likely be an improvement in terms of coherance. ive found it very difficult to achieve satisfying results with tweeters in dash-corner locations, so dropping them down nearer the midrange may make things easier for you.
but yeah, bluetac and a sunday afternoon make for cheap experimentation

Yeah, I've just done exactly that with my pioneers, although I did it not so much to fix staging, but I felt there was a little too much seperation between the mids and the tweets.
The staging is a little lower now, which is why I'm considering ambients (plus superVT has been yammering on and giving me ideas :-D ) but overall SQ has definatly improved.

Ok, I relocated my tweets yesterday to the corner of my footwells, where the kicks, firewall and floor all meet together.
Sound seems more solid, and the soundstage doesn't seem to have been dragged down much from before, which is good.
However, the sound from the tweets travels through the sound from the mids to get to me, so there seems to be a bit of interference happening, and some slight resonance at higher freq's too.
But overall, an improvement

The improvement is All Good.
I'm wondering if the tweets are solidly mounted....? Can be pretty flimsy down there, just a thought.

i can't see that the soundwaves would be interfering to any significance.

but you may be experiencing some accoustic boosting/troughing either from the panels in the car or phasing with the woofer. repositioning them slightly may help.
resonance or sibilence? resonance suggests some vibrations somewhere. sibilence is more like harsh treble which may be a characteristic of the tweet or the amp; again, repositioning the tweet, including slightly more off-axis may help.
however, without listening to your setup, i'm just guessing here.

Ok firstly, and probably most importantly, the tweets aren't mounted solidly. They are sitting in the 3mm MDF baffles I made to sit them in the stock locations, and this is just sitting in the corner off the footwells. Not ready to custom FG just yet

Repositioning is less than a possibility i'm afraid, as the proximity of the accelerator negates mounting anywhere else on the kick without getting in the way of either the pedel or my foot.
At any rate, I'll be leaving it like this till the next meet, so if anyone wants a listen, they can be my guest

Are you coming out to the Penrith spot on Thursday night sbadman? I could have a listen and make a suggestion or two if you'd like.
