more info needed:

*what model number
*what impedence is each sub?

the impedence will determine what the overall impedence will be once you wire them up in parallel. and whether that becomes 2ohm or 4ohm has huge implications on what amp is suitable. you should match the amp for the impedence (ie: ensure it's 'stable' to drive that impedence) and power handling.

you should always go by 'RMS' power ratings, for all components as it is a much better representation of the continuous power involved.

later...

to hazardous a guess i'd say pioneer tsw-304C which are 300w rms at 4 ohms.

prob best to wire them in parallel to get a 2 ohm load, cept gonna want a 2 ohm stable amp (i think)

shiny/anyone wanna help out on that last bit?

so as mentioned above, with 2x4ohm SVC subs you will need an amp capable of 2ohm mono loads. unfortunately that means most entry level amps are out of the question

whats your budget looking like?

as mentioned, 2ohm mono stable amps tend to be more expensive.

so maybe stuff like:
*alpine MRD-M500 1x500WRMS into 2ohm, RRP$799
*audison LRx1.400 1x660WRMS into 2ohm, ~$900
*mtx thunder6500D, earthquake, signat
*lanzar, (coustic)

coustic hopefully will be releasing their class D monoblocs here in australia. i noticed them on their website (in links section) and should be excellent value.

the cheaper and perhaps less effective option is to buy a 4-channel amp and bridge it into 2, to run each sub off a bridged channel. the result is likely to be less punchy and authorative, but ok none the less.

something like a coustic 481QE for ~$500 maybe ok.

good luck

A Class D amp will be a good choice as they are generally edesigned to run best into lower impedances.

A good second hand choice that is about for not too much $$ is the Kicker ZR360, will be good in the real world for ~600 watts rms into 2 ohms. They are current-hungry muthas but are good things.
You might put up a WTB (wanted to buy) in the Car Audio For sale here at CAA. There are a few members with them. About $500 would secure one I think.

I can think of at least one member running that combo of amp and twin Pioneer 12s and works very well.

Good luck and enjoy, whichever way you go.

Sorry for the thread hijacking, but I just looked at those Coustic Class D monoblocks...
Check this out:

36dB/octave, 40Hz - 200Hz Low Pass Crossover
36dB/octave Subsonic filter @20 or 40Hz

I think that's the steepest Xover slopes I've ever seen!

They are already out in aust (481QE).

Seen them at jb hifi - think they are going for just under 600.

Thats the marked price so u'll be able to get them down abit, but still prob worth looking at 2nd hand amps that the guys have suggested.

Coustic D class monoblocks are indeed in the country and have been for several months now. They have been good sellers by all accounts and may not be available in some stores. (Have seen them with own eyes, they are the ones with the pretend carbon fibre trim piece)

Steve Hutchison

Coustic 401DB - RRP $629. Does anyone know what the street price of these is? I assume JB Hifi would discount them fairly readily...

ah sweet, that's good news. i think if they're of at least the same quality as their multichannel class AB amps, then these will be ripper value too.
