Hey guys,

I was at Metro sound in Chatswood today (Sydney) and they have AVI splits on the display. They sounds really really good and much better than the Boston RC's in my opinion. They have woven kevlar dome and really nice tweeters. Has anyone ever heard these or own a pair? I am just wondering what you think of this Canadian speaker brand and its products. They have won awards for their top of the range components but they are like 1000 a pair. I am more looking into the 500 a pair range of their speakers. The alpine type r's in my opinion sound way too bright.

there's only ever been the odd mention of them on the forums. try doing a 'search' for those threads.

however i can't remember who nor whether they actually had them.

but trust your ears.

i have checked them out a few times, both at metrosound, n in ppls cars. my brother also heard them in canada last time he was there. they really are quite sweet sounding n well built. though at 1000 u need to do a bit of haggling with the sales person, u should be able to get them cheaper than that.

I have heard these splits a few times in stores, and for countless hours in a good friend's car. He got his for about $450 from metrosound, so im assuming they were not the same as the ones you got quoted on, but his are very, very nice sounding speakers.

Im not sure about the $1000 ones, but im sure the splits my friend has are not TOO bad value, comparing price against SQ, and also taking into account their build quality and rarity. Either way, if you did end up getting them, im sure you would be happy!

I was in Metrosound the other day having a listen to some splits including AVI and I was very impressed with them! The XLs ($450) are their entry level range and sounded pretty decent but I was amazed at the sound of the next series up, the ELs. They cost $650 for the 6.5" woofer and tweeter (no crossover, apparently not needed) and I thought they sounded better (cleaner, more detail and more definition) than the Boston Acoustic Rally series, Alpine DDDrives and even Focal Utopias.

Will definitely be keeping AVI in mind for a future upgrade.
