Righteo.. I'm starting to get keen on rebuilding my front stage and I've got all the goodies at home.

For the front stage, its best to "aim" the speakers at the opposite sides seats head rest, correct ? IE. The drivers side speakers are aimed towards the passengers head rest.

How about the rear fills ? I'm gunna use a 6" co-ax for rear fill, how should I aim them ? Same way ? Like drivers side rear fill aims towards the front passengers head rest ? (or there abouts).

Imaging imaging imaging !
I want some nice imaging for the rear-seat passengers as well (yes, I know that makes thing difficult).

well if that's the case you should mount the rear fill infront of the rear passengers, and aim at opposite headrest,
i.e. right hand rear speaker aims at left hand rear headrest.
good luck
and IMO you are right about your angling, but only experimentation can tell for sure, you may have different taste or your car may be different acoustically.

hey blackice, fellow magna believer

imaging for rear seat passengers?!?!? AINT gonna happen

seriously, if someone has led you to believe that speakers *behind* listeners and bouncing off glass is going to image at all, let alone image well, you hvae been grossly misled my friend.

good imaging is usually only ever achieved for the front passengers, and then usually only one of them. rear speakers are only good for adding ambience for the front passengers, and giving the rear passengers something to listen to apart from your subwoofers.

do a quick search on the web for definitions of stereo imaging, and then visit a home audio store so you can hear and see what good stereo imaging actually is. once you're ears are awoken, knowing whats achievable in your car will be a whole lot easier

ps - yes, general rule is to aim door/kick pods at opposite headrest or thereabouts or slightly forward.

regarding rearfill, i agree with the sentiment here, that it's not of much value angling them. the reflections off the back window are enough to defract music everywhere but in the ideal direction.

i (fortunately) happen to have my refill mounted in the rear doors which will go some way towards better staging for the rear passengers. but i haven't gone to the extent to angle them...bugger that!

have fun.

i had splits in the rear of my car, and i managed to get decent imaging with them, (not competition winning, or even close)
but i accidentally angled the tweeters down slightly, which reduced the brightness (as they were mounted so close, and helped reduce reflected sound waves off rear window.

anyway, i think it ended up sounding pretty decent.

get the speakers off tha shelf and into the back doors.

still not gonna be too easy with co-ax though, the tweet position possabilities from splits would be nice.

good luck

*crosses rear-seat passenger imaging off the list* . Learn something new every day

Was more wondering if its worth while bothering.. and that questions certainly been answered !

If only you guys could see what I did with the current rear-fill.. I think it'd make your toes curl (6"x9"s in plastic angled pods.. facing each other !). *cough*.. "filling a hole" at its worst.

well, there's not fixed rules in car audio as we all know. so just have fun experimenting. but i don't see you getting too far with parcel shelf rears.

the only benefit ive found of rear deck mounted speakers is to lift the sound stage and raise it off the dash slightly to provide some dimension and depth. note this is only for the front passengers. so it can be handy for SQ if used subtley

personally .. screw imaging for the rear passengers hehe

fair enough just bass for the rear passengers (ie no rear fill) sucks .. but goin as far as getting the imaging right back there is i think completely unnecessary.

heres my 2cents:

methinks overall staging is a lot better when rear fill is on the rear shelf .. as tbro suggesting .. it can actually HELP the front stage by lifting it.

also in my VT .. the stock locations for the rear speakers are in the doors .. i had reaer fill in there for a while and was quite content .. but then i went and shoved the rear fill in the rear shelf and the difference is dramatic! .. in a short sentence .. why have rear fill which drags the soundstage back AND down .. IMHO neways

yeah i tend to agree, rear speakers in the doors are annoying because they tend to be so close to the front passengers ears, that they are easily localised (especially if like me you push your seat all the way back to minimise path length differences!)

rear shelf gets them far away and uses the glass to disperse the sound such that it does what rear fill is meant to - add ambience and dimension to the front stage.

but yeah, bugger thinking about rear passengers for an SQ system!

if the rear fill becomes and SQ problem, just fade it out when you don't have passengers.

and T-Bro, we all know you recline/slide your seat all the way back for that fully sic look.
