Guys,
Just wondering a couple of things, and would like all your general opinions please.

I am getting Polykevlar 165k2s.
I listened to them in a shop, and loved their sound.
They were running off a 2x100wRMS Clarion Vnet amp.

Will my new alpine amp (2x80wRMS) make them go just as hard in the mid bass area?

Thanks
Valkyrie

you serious? i would sincerely hope it's better.

the amp is of course the sum of its parts (and design), so things like power supply/voltage rails, MOSFETs/transistors, xovers, etc will add up to higher quality.

i'd be extremely surprised if you did a back to back comparison and was disappointed with the alpine. will be difficult for you to compare what you will have and what it sounded like on a board in a shop.

also, allow the splits to run-in before being too critical, which will loosen the suspension properly and improve the midbass and overall sound.

Kinda ditto, the Alpine oughtta be better IMO.

Focal kevlars take a LOT of running in.
With kevlars tho', set-up/installation is important, seal those doors and make them dead (broken record from Critter).
As has been said numerously here, kevlars need a bit of work in these areas to get good mid-bass, but WILL deliver in a decent installation.

Hey valk :P Vnet's really aren't that good ;) The Alpine will sound much nicer and will probably go louder too, I reckon

i dont think brand or model makes any inate difference only your ears (or someone elses who's tried the particular amp) can judge that. besides, amplifiers are the most linear (flat) devices in the audio world, they are not supposed to influence any particular part of the spectrum, ie midbass, more than another.

sure different amps sound marginally different to each other (and that includes within the same price point as my own ears have heard in home audio), but i think its dangerous to promote assumptions that changing to a better-marketed brand will produce accentuated response in a particular part of the frequency spectrum for one given pair of speakers - just seems too theoretical and focused on 'specs' to me

they will probably sound better in your car then in the shop because they are in a smaller space.

???
enclosure space?
cabin space?
i'd assume a shop would give them a 20L sealed box or something of that sort.

I would think (as shiny said) that the Alpine would have bulkier internal capacitance, meaning more power on tap for bass hits, more accurate bass etc.
