A friend of mine is looking for a 4X 70-100wrms amp for his front and rears... and we want some opinions from the members on what might be some good amps to go have a look at.. i have already suggested to him to try the DLS reference.. which is about 4x80 off the top of my head.. is there anything else that we should consider? SQ wise of course..

any help will be greatly appreicated

pfffffffffft.

if he can afford it, go with 2 amps, one more powerful for the front stage, and a much smaller one for the rears.

just thought i'd be different.

Personally I would be chasing a good 2 channel amp for the front and HU power for the rears.

But then I am anti-rear-fill.....

------------------
Mazda SP20 - NOT yellow,Dynamat Extreme and G Spot in front doors
HU - Alpine CDA-7876RB
Audison VRx 2.150EX front stage amp
JL Audio 500/1 Class D monoblock sub amp
Front Stage - Morel HCW 6.5 woofers, Morel MT2 tweeters, Morel MX2.2 x-overs.
Rear fill - stockies with power from HU (not that they get any)
Sub - Kicker S12L72 in 75 litre 30Hz slot-ported display box.
Stinger cables and connectors etc

a friend eh? heh the dq200 would be great for running a set of fronts and rears, however shiny and critter both have good ideas, id suggest getting a nice 2 ch sq amp and running the rears off the hu, that way you are getting a better amp for the money but you have the loss of 2 channels. However the dq ia still a great sq amp for under 1k
cheers

I would recommend you buy the amp that suits you as far as features, power and price go...

Some suggestions:
rockford fosgate punch series
phoenix gold tantrum series
alpine v12's
nakamichi pa 504

all of these amps are excellent performers i love rockfords because of their very low noise floor, good features and value for money

Hope this is of some use to you, good luck & let us know how you go!

lots of choices really...

the DLS would be in my list, along with u-dimension, audison lrx series, PG, crossfire tek series, and soundstream

Out of the PG range you could get the Tantrum series which look great and sound even better.

Or save up those pennies and get the Titanium series. I love these so much I have 2 of them.

i dont think u-demension makes any amps that are under 1k... but thats what im currently favouring for my own system.. where im not so worried about the price
i had a listening test the other day.. and they really blew me away.. the only amp i havn't heard yet are the audison VRX series.. so i guess its down to those two.. maybe dls top end stuff as well..

but neways.. back to my friend with the lesser buget.. i think its really out of audison LRX or DLS reference.. might check out PG.. another on the long list to try ;-)

thanks for the advice everyone

when i was looking at u-dimension amps, they were surprisingly cheap...yanddy always offers me a discount higher then the CAA 10% but told me these were approximate RRP's...if you get it from audioart, you'll get 10% off

pro7.2 (75Wx2) $600
pro3.4 (35Wx4/105Wx2) $700
pro10.4 (105Wx4/315Wx2) $800

and the u-40XS from the forte series retails for around 800 too i think

this was a few months ago, so things might be a bit different, but definately worth a look

i was comparing the pro7.2 to the DLS reference and crossfire tek series and the u-dimension took my fancy out of all of them, however they are all very nice sounding amps

if you wish to have a look at u-dimension amps then visit Freeway Car Audio in malvern or dandenong. they don't have much display stock in malvern, but you can order them in obviously.

good luck

yeh, malvern freeway is where i did my listen test of them with the focal utopias.. and it blew me away.. the other thing i like is that fact focals 2001 demo car used all u-dimension amps.. which makes me think there are a perfect amp for those speakers.. (component matching is one of the hardest problems i will be facing)

so these two are my front stage combo setup leaders.. unless somthing else can really surprise me.. and considering morel have no more stock comming into the country until next year.. i dont see that happening..

The best way would be as Shiney said Two seperate amps but if you cant breach the 1k mark then this is obviously a no go.

The LRx 4.300 would be the next offering at $1017 RRP - $915 to CAA Members.

PG is another good option too.

RF I have never considered an SQ amp more a Ballsy power house for loud systems. A bit like an American V8 mussle car vs a Ferrari, one screams "power" the other sings to you!

Lots of good amps out there though, and maybe a RF is what you are looking for?

Chat to a few members and see what they recon.
