Ok, i'm doing research for mostly myself for when I get a job and for my mate atm. Which would you recommend for SQ? The Pioneer Amps or the V12's?!? They both seem kinda similar?

I'd say V12, but, the previous model pioneer's (the "bullet" ones) are awesome amps IMO.... I've got one and it VERY clear and very dynamic.... So... Hmmm

Out of those two, I would say V12 for sure as well. I would also say look elsewhere too (but then I would wouldn't I!)

i'm an obvious alpine fan, so a little biased.

however, what models are you looking at? and to run what?

i don't know the exact pricing on pioneer, so maybe let us know that too. alpine i can tell you about (and no, i don't sell the stuff, just use it ).

if the amps are both overkill for your speakers in terms of quality, then the dearer amp is not going to make the speakers sound any better.

pioneer do make very decent amps, so should not be overlooked. however, i don't personally think they're great value, and would be buying alpine.

but as i mentioned, it would depend on the application.

later...

Well after my HSC i'm going to have a go at making my own splits, so they'll be driving those, but if I fail at that the, amp would most probably be driving a pair of Hertz Splits.
Shiny how are prices for V12 2 chan amps the MRV-T407 or the MRV-T707 or the MRV-T757 new? Not RRP, but proper st prices...? Thanks a bill

all those amps you mention are the old 2001 range. so i'm not sure what stock remains, nor what prices you could pick them up for. from memory their RRPs were about $499/$699/$829 each respectively.

there are currently only 2 2-channel models available in the V12 range:

*MRV-T320 2x50WRMS into 4ohm at 12V 2x80WRMS at 14.4V; RRP$499
*MRV-T420 2x80WRMS into 4ohm at 12V; 2x110WRMS at 14.4V; RRP$699

streetprice will vary a fair bit depending on whether you buy it as the only product, or with a whole lot of other stuff...as you'd expect. streetprice for only an amp should be 10~15% off RRP.

these amps will be 'underrated' powerwise a reasonable amount, probably 20~30%, although i have not heard if the birthsheets indeed suggest this (note that the birthsheets are now rated at 14.4V).

hope this helps.

well as u can see from my signature i run v12 F407 and T 407s...

they are good... especially the f407... the difference is the final stage runs mosfet transistors...

the only two channel of the older (last series) v12s that did un mosfet outputs was the MRV T757 and the big ass 1507

prices in store wont apply now as they are no longer available...

but there are alot around second hand...

expect to pay around the following

T 407 bout 250-300 (depends on age.. they ran them for 2-3years... $479 RRP (went for $340 new when alpine were sellin them off as they got superceded!!! thats when i got mine)

-gotta say that it is a good value amp... heaps of power and clean sound for the price u can snag em... mine has a birth cert that showed 2 x 53WRMS per channel at 4 ohms at only 12v. I run it bridged and i gives my dddrive sub more than ample poewer to produce well into the mid 130s SPL and is also more than capable of exploiting the high SQ response that the DDD sub can!!!

T 707 bout 300-350 579 rrp-ish

T 757 bout 450-500 829 RRp-ish BIG POWER

hope that helps

ive been using alpine amps for a couple of years now and have NEVER had an issue with them!! brilliant quality, have way more than rated power, and excellent value 4 money IMO.

apart from the 1507, the MRV 1005 is a brilliant 2ch amp too... although a lil bit old now (1999/2000 model) it was rated at 2x100wrms or 600wrms bridged 4 ohm (at 12 volts of course..)..
my birth certificates say 2x130wrms at 12 volts.. (therefore 30% underrated, which makes the rated 600wrms mono VERY interesting!!!!)..add another 2.4 volts and ur touching some pretty damn impressive power figures!!!

hang on..this post is about quality, not power... ummm... alpine is AWESOME quality!!!

no online stores sell alpine, it is against company policy.

can't help you with stores up north either.

Valkyrie recently bought a new alpine 2-channel (as well as a monobloc). so i'm sure he can offer the birthsheet specs.

if possible, remember to buy the proper amp for the application. meaning, if later down the track you need a subamp, then you may be better off (in terms of performance) with the monobloc which will sound much gruntier and be more efficient (if it's class D).

good luck

Yeah Shiney I've been trying to think that way...which is hwy I wanted the birthsheets for the 2 chans...because in the future I was looking to maybe bridge and run as a sub amp if it has big power like the 1005...

vibe amps are kinda more entry level than an alpine V12. they are reasonable value, but the better lanzar amps are more expensive, but are definitely great SQ (optiSL, optidrive series).

IMO, as an alternative to alpine, consider the likes of dls, mtx, hertz, signat, etc.

good luck

RM Audio
Maybe consider the Audison LRx or a PG.
Both companies have entry level amps that are fairly priced compared to the Pioneer and Alpine and they are both definatly SQ amps.
