Want to know the SQ of rockford Power HX2 is good or not? i know it should be a very good SPL sub, but dunno if it has good SQ. I want to build a car with very good SQ and not bad at SPL. Also, any other suggestion for similar $$? thanks

don't even know how much they are, sorry. maybe if you can mention the price and your budget, we can recommend some options.

the design of the subbox has a huge impact on the overall SQ of a sub. as does the requirement for sealed or ported. and this reflects ths thiele-small specs for it (particularly Fs, Qts, Vas).
i've heard about one person not being happy with RF subs (don't know model though), but maybe he couldn't fit/build the required box.
and plenty of people use RF, and so i suppose there's some happy campers out there.
have you auditioned them yourself? and whenever you do, take note of the amp being used and the box design (internal volume, port tuning, etc). and preferably listen with them in a car and not in the shop.

I've had a couple of friends in the past use RF punch and power series subs and love them for SQ while delivering decent SPL, but I don't know anyone with any of the latest range. IMO as long as you're looking at the higher series RF subs, you'll be getting a quality product.
While I'm here, what's everyone's general oppinion on RF amps? Is the power series worth paying the extra $$$ over the punch series?

hee, hee, funnily, not many 'SQ' people use RF stuff. nothing wrong with it, but i think they've marketed themselves into the 'in ya face' region.
they don't have a reputation for 'revealing' SQ. and as such, i think many people look elsewhere, for better or worse.
i would expect their more premium amps to be worth it. i have not heard a lot of favourable reports about their entry level stuff...but you expect that.
it's possible you may get more replies/opinions with this thread in General Discussion. only coz, as i say, RF is not the typical SQ thing. just say the word and any Mod can happily move it there (please don't start a new thread).
cheers

Rockford make some great products i personally love their amps and subs, however their full range speakers don't really do it for me,3 steps to help you
1 listen to em
2 if you like em
3 buy em
as they say it's your money ralph and you've gotta live with em......so choose wisely

yeh my subs are Rockford Fosgate, and i like them and all, but not really going to be much help in giving an SQ bias opinion

i think they do make decent gear, far from cheap, of the 3 big US brands (Kicker, RF, MTX) its at the top, tho of course there are many others im just pointing out from those ones...
anyway as above, go listen to them for yourself, but every RF based system (drivers wise) ive heard has been very midbass bias and puncy. now i dunno if u want to take that on as a good or bad comment, or even note it at all, but yeh just my thoughts

the rf power subs won't get as loud or sound as good as a regular hx2 but it will handle a huge hammering and still hold up so it's really no use to u, if u're looking for sq the HE2 would be the best bet out of the rf range

Hmmm, we've got a rockford hx2 in a ported box in the lounge room, it's awesome, goes loud and loud, perfect for movies and the like..... but as for sq? Well, for starters they like large ported boxes = group delay (in this case) it is noticable as it's a large room... you can hear the delay! but, that said, for SQ, i'd also be going with a HE2 in a VERY well designed box, and it should sound very nice... However, i've got a type R, and it's very accurate and tight!

In all my years n car audio (over 15) I have never once heard of RF used for SQ...Except for about 2yrs when all you heard about was using RF and MBQ.... that was a fad everyone was going too...
If you realy want SQ subs...there are a ton better out there:
Image Dynamics
Adire
coughJLcough
Boston A.
DD
and I'm sure ther are a couple others i forgot.
