Hey guys.....

After buying a Response 4x100, and discovering a really irritating white noise floor... (read my post under Beginner's forum : Noise Problem, if you wanna know my saga..)i've decided to get a refund from Jaycar and spend my money elsewhere....

Basically what i'm after is a 4 channel amp, that can be run at a high pass for front splits and low pass for my sub. $500 is my absolute limit for cash since my ICE is reaching the $2000 limit I set myself...

My splits are JL Audio VR650Csi's and my sub is a JL 12w3-D2 if that helps without the process...

any suggestions for the best SQ amp for under $500 is what I'm after, open to any suggestions and might consider two 2ch amps performing the same duties....

for that budget, i'd recommend something from coustic , which are excellent value, and well-featured. the 481QE should suit your needs, so visit somewhere like jb hifi to have a look/listen.

otherwise, maybe something from dls (at millenium car sound), hertz, or maybe kicker (if within budget).

you won't find an alpine V12 or audison LRx for <$500 to meet your needs.

fyi, the cheapest alpine V12 is the MRV-F340:
*4x35/2x90WRMS into 4ohm at 12V
*4x55/2x130WRMS into 4ohm at 14.4V
*the relatively weak specs are deceptive as V12s are nice gutsy amps
*RRP$699

The best SQ amp for $500 is going to be in the For Sale forum.

Amps new at that price are going to be much of a muchness, Coustic and Hertz and possibly cheapest DLS closest to real SQ IMO.

I would be looking in the for sale forum or trading post for a ~$1k RRP amp 2nd hand.

There is also something special about buying new so if thats the case, perhaps give the phoenix gold QX line a listen or orion cobalt. I owned a QX4150 a while ago and was very happy with it (it was the amp i bought after selling my response 4x100). I havent heard the cobalt but some people seem happy with them i and am impressed by orions higher end gear.

Seriously, in line with above, I would look for something that is the "real deal" in a good "pre-loved" amp......or save some more

not only is that amp well over 500, and more like $1500 from memory, but i think it's 100WRMS per channel at 4ohm.
