Eh, so i lied
Maybe not SERIOUS issues, but important nonetheless Now, my issue is this.
Imagine for a moment that you have a set of very nice midbasses (7") that sound/image EXCELLENT... you've got a xover with a 60db (yeah, 60db) slope... You have the knowhow to modify the xover incase the tweeters you get aren't the right ohmage, therefore changing the xover point... Now, would you take:
Option 1: Buy Dynaudio MD100 tweets and modify the xover to get the right xover point, (i like the sound of these tweets btw!) and have a 2 way f/s... Cost: about $360 for tweets (pair)
Option 2: Get a set of 4" Morel Dotech splits, use the current driver+ very modded xover's to make what would be a really nice f/s... Cost: $309 just for the splits+xover+tweets...
I *think* Marc has this set up, correct? Using the supremo tweets and an 8" driver instead? Hmmm....
Install wise, i think i'd mount the tweet and the midbass in the kickpanels (ECU needs to be moved, PITA but doable) and the 7"s in the front doors, MAYBE ported using the door as a chamber, OR creating a 5L sealed box on the bottom of the door using the trim and MDF (from my calculations there should be *just* enough room to make it flush and use mdf to create a 5L enclosure..)
What are peoples thoughts? My system is REALLLLLLY starting to come together and even in it's current not working properly state, the imaging is "getting there"....
In case Marc reads this - Offer some advice :P
THanks all

PS the CDT Xovers arent 60dB, they are in fact normal 12 or so dB, they claim 60dB Octave Slopes as part of the drivers

The cdt xover's are, um, i forget the technical term... but they have 2 xover's running one after another, i.e. there's basically 4 xover's inside it's xover, i've checked it out, and it appears to be correct.... maybe not... I dunno, but whatever it is, it's steeeeeep because below the xover freq almost nothing comes of the the tweet.......

This may help a little,

quote:

Technically speaking, the SatNet crossover design is a fourth order/24dB per octave design supplemented by a series first order/6dB per octave on the front end. The unique combination of the two creates a virtual 10th order, 60dB per octave crossover where the critical crossover point between the mid and tweeter is.

i guess it may boil down to budget and installation hassle.

if going a 2-way setup, then the 7" woofer and dyn tweet should make a very nice setup. if you can set the passive xover up properly, then cool.

if going a 3-way setup, then i'd suggest running semi-active. you'll probably need an outboard active xover; this will allow you to BP the woofer and HP the morel splits, retaining the passive xover for them.

even the 2-way setup may be much easier to tune running active. and keeping the passive xover you already have for the sake of it may not be worth the hassle to modify.

good luck
