Hello,
The other day I cut some metal out behind the back seat & I didn't take the speakers out of the parcel shelf & metal filings are now in the voice coil=F*@#$D.

So should I buy a pair of 8" mid for the back and when I buy my subs put the 8" in the front doors for big bass and the 6" mids in the rear for fill. Or should I do something else.

Thank you I know that was a bit long

are you sure they're stuffed? that's a bizarre death!

IMO, whatever you buy next, ensure it's something you'll keep and use, rather than upgrade. and install them in their intended place. meaning, if you want 8" front stage woofers, install them in the doors, and not temporarily in the parcel shelf.

however, i would stick with your plans for subs and a subamp, rather than 'waste' money elsewhere.

good luck

Yeah when I push the woofer part down it makes a constant scratching sound and when thier running with any bass it's like a realy bad resonating sound.

Yup it sounds as if there dead to me, oh well, don't worry about it, you'll forget the 6x9's soon especially if you have a sub in the back, even an average 10inch is a huge improvement for bass characteristics when compared to that of a pair of 6x9's.

As for you rear speakers, I suggest you just throw in a pair of 6inch coaxials in the back, and start concentrating on your front stage. As nice as an 8inch woofer up the front would sound without a decent tweeter, midrange combo you'd be loosing a whole heap in the audio spectrum, basically your whole car will be producing sub bass freq extrememly well, but when it comes to the higher levels, they'll be a large gap.

If you have the patience and finance sufficient for a good 3 way setup then, yes I suggest going with the 8inch up the front, then add a 4inch, of 5inch, midrange, and a tweeter, but if you don't, a properly installed 6inch split system will do wonders for your car.

A single 12inch, or 10inch, with a good 6inch split system up the front is a tried and tested solution for quality car audio, you won't be dissapointed.

Hopefully that helped.

After thinking about it for awhile I think I'll just buy one of the 10" subs that I was going to get, instead of some replacement rear fill. Alpine type S 10" dual 4 ohm voice coil sub run of a 4X50WRMS amp (2ch bridged per coil)for the time being would be better off untill I get the other sub and amp. Thanks for steering me the right way guys.

i dont think your speakers are dead, the metal filings simply lodged themselves inbetween the pole piece and the voice coil, inducing rubbing which sounds very similar to a blown VC (where the coil strands unwind) or a misaligned cone which leads to voice coil rubbing.

unfortunately the only way to get the filings out is to pull the cones out of the basket, clean the pole piece, and then have the speakers re-coned so yeah, you're probably doing the right thing gettig new drivers.

Not to mention the filings have probably grated against the VC & pole piece wearing them out.
