In the Dyn vs Focal thread, DJ Choss and Cyberpunky mentioned a company by the name of Becker, and I had a look around and found their site, it's http://www.beckerautosound.com/ , for anyone else thats interested.

Edit: In the amps' specs, it's interesting to note that they include rarely seen specs like Damping factor, Channel seperation (in Dbs) and the frequency at which S/N and THD have been measured at, surely the signs of quality, even if they are irrelevant for comparisons.....

Nice looking gear, though I must say, I'm more impressed with figures for s/n and THD when they are given as the max values when tested at rated power, for 20-20KHz, rather than 1w and 1 freq.

Pity car amps didn't get included in the regualtions for rating home amps...

becker are an esoteric car audio brand that produces high quality gear. must like mcintosh, denon, brax, etc.

CP can supply the stuff i believe, but don't expect it to be cheap, nor offer frilly features.

and the same philosophy applies: don't judge a component so much by the specs as in the listening.

There are no regs that I know of.

A rotel amp rated at 2 x 100 isnt the same as a lot of other amps that claim same power.

Anyway Becker is the only brand of HU I handle as I know that regardless of model, the unit will do what you would expect at the prices they sell for. They have lots of subtle yet cool features, like speed dependent volume, telephone mute with input, so calls come thru system, etc.

There are regulations for rating home amps in the US and (I think) most of Europe, so with most of our amps coming from there, they would have got decent ratings too.

They'd have to be just about the only company left on earth to still flog cassette based machines/systems!
Quite good build quality though...their older units (bearing in mind they were largely OEM back then) were chock-full of quality components. No air in those babies...just pure circuit boards...
They're a bit boring like Naks, though.
It seems their current range includes an amp with direct optical inputs!

Ouch, but hey, if it sounds good..... Interesting that there's a (relatively) small price difference in the models, from top to bottom, but I guess you get that with a small range.
