What does everyone think is the best car to build the ultimate SQ system in?? I would love to hear your opinions.

1. My 1992 Honda Integra sounds in my opinion pretty darn sweet.
Sonic Nirvana
I would be looking for something very solid and roomy like an S Class Benz, big Lexus, that kinda gadget......

------------------
Mazda SP20 - NOT yellow,Dynamat Extreme and G Spot in front doors
HU - Alpine CDA-7876RB
Audison VRx 2.150EX front stage amp
JL Audio 500/1 Class D monoblock sub amp
Front Stage - Morel HCW 6.5 woofers, Morel MT2 tweeters, Morel MX2.2 x-overs.
Rear fill - stockies with power from HU (not that they get any)
Sub - Kicker S12L72 in 75 litre 30Hz slot-ported display box.
Stinger cables and connectors etc

except the engine will drown out the stereo.

How 'bout an XD?? I'm trying to prove SQ and big cubes can work!

(From the conversation I've had with Gifford, I'm going to single-handedly pay for his new speedboat when I buy my sound deadening though )

a big a$$ old sedan, with steering column and driving seat relocated to the centre, the engine (a modern quiet one) moved to the boot (so subs can be mounted up-front) and big money on sound deadening and cloth/velour covering for the interior.

then would come the audio components....

A three seater, centre mounted steering wheel 22B Sooby with rear mounted engine for front subs...hehe.

Maybe a McLaren F1 then?

Seriously, the new Lexus sedans are supposed to be pretty good.
I'd love a Beemer too.

The good thing about Integra's is the amount of sound deading they have. Not only that but it is really good quality, the good thing about my doors is they are already very solid.

also, as i have previously mentioned,
a big station wagon, and turn the seats around to face the rear, giving lotsa mounting options, a wall could also be built for more placement options,
hey, if it works for SPL, why not give it a go for SQ.

Oh come now, we all already know that a Magna is the best (affordable) basis for an SQ machine. Low reflective interior with a very low NVH for a production sedan.

Small problem with the "Team V6 Maggot".. I run a 'Big Block' Hemi 4 banger .
Speaking of SQ and low NVH levels, my exhaust restrictor is on its way 'cos a howling exhaust ain't what SQ dreams are made of

Oh, and one downer with the hummer (Don't ask who I had to speak to to find this kind of totally useless info out...):
Console totally blocks opposite side kicks, and there is severe path length differences. Moving a seat to center would be cool, but tunnel gets in the way

yeah thats the weird thing with cars. wide cars have a wider, bigger soundstage, but pathlength differences are greater and hence more listener-side bias and 'blackhole' effect in the centre. small, narrow cars have less PLD and a denser soundfield, but a narrower stage and more cramped legroom that drowns out kicks and doors. the dilemmas we face

So we need a large truck, with a center seat...

Hmmm, we need to convice Mclaren to make a car with some room

I gotta agree Honda's have are really good for sq cars without going stupid cutting the car up. Accords are awesome to work with you can get pretty good results without spending a fortune, they are easy to work with and pretty quiet, for a stocker that would be the way i would go....

I was just gonna suggest Accords, not that i'm biased

I guess i'll have to see what results i can get out of it. Surprisingly, the 1990 era Prelude is also quite easy to get sounding good

Well I think BasAA may be onto something

A lot of hondas are great due to the steeply raked front glass or maybe its something else but I have fitted out a few and with very basic set ups, they sounded great with little or no tweaking, and they didnt need heaps of power as quiet car.

At the end of the day though, does it really matter? Isn't half the fun/challenge of our hobby all about trying to get the best out of the equipment you've got?
Don't tell me that you would specifically NOT purchase a car based on the fact that it doesn't "possess good SQ"...don't get me wrong, this would be no different to not choosing a model based on it's colour, etc, but if everything was right abt the car would this be the ONLY influence?
IMHO any car and any piece of equipment can be made /refined to the point that it can be a serious SQ challenger...
It's all about symbiotic relationships. The way ALL the quipment interact would define how the "SQ" is...
T-Bro
there is alot of truth in what silverpoint is saying. in my experience, what makes cars 'sound' different is often acoustics (some cars hit big SPL easily, other cars sound airy and echo) - these are things that are not easily observed at the car yard or in a brochure, though things like space to mount drivers etc are. hence choosing a car based on how we think it might sound could get pretty esoteric.

i guess the fun challenge with car audio is taking whatever car you've got, and with your own skill and component selection *making* it sound good indeed, what i get a kick out of, is that i took my own car that is a very "common" and non-exotic everyday car, and through my own skill, design and effort, turned it into a serious sound-machine that is one-of-a-kind and makes every drive exciting. indeed, at times my humble aussie sedan has pulled greater crowd interest than rare and exotic european sports cars that cost 15 times as much. i believe this is because car audio is the one automotive hobby that lets you take ANY car and *make* it special - you don't have to be a big shot millionaire to do it. people love car audio because they can identify with it, because it is accessable for everyone. its the world of exotic cars for the masses

that, and you can do it with any car you like

I have to agree, I mean what person in their right mine would use a 69 corolla I know Angelo Kanci got his BMW specifically because it could be made to accomodate horns and due to some traights it had that were pluses for SQ but I think he is an exception and its really about working with what you got.

I almost bought a Rover as it would take my horns, was right price and is a great tow car which fitted my criteria, but I just couldnt justify paying more rego, ins and maintaning another vehicle, so didnt go ahead with that project

Anyway its all about having good tunes in what ever you drive, and the tough part is working out what you think makes for good tunes

A Extra Cab ute, like a toyota hilux Xtr cab... They are the easist foundation to start from... everything is so flat, plain, simple, and gagetless..

In the US comps it seems to be split between big coupes (put seats right back, get some kicks, all nice) and large 4wds (go the long path length). Scott's 240sx comes to mind as a coupe example. Sound deadened rear side windows, gotta love it! One of the kicker SQ cars (can't remember who built it) is a Forerunner, very nicely done too.

The 4 Runner is Mark Eldridge's car, he has fully molded panels that fit on the glass to stop reflections and to stop depth cues. Too much time and way tooo much money spent. Awesome results though.
the[K]id
thats the one! Very nicely done cars. Seems to get any where near the top of the SQ ladder in iasca you need to rebuild the entire cabin from metal up. Ah well, least you could build it with the cup holder in the possie you wanted
