whilst the 1502 is an excellent component, it's not [i]really [i]suited to your needs.
it was available as part of the '98 alpine range, with SQ in mind. but by today's standards, is pretty low on features. it was essentially a tuner and controller; no CD. the tuner was a good one though!
it's Ai-NET, so able to control stackers, processors, etc. 4V preouts, good internal power supply,, and good display.
but no auxillary input, no EQ, no time alignment, no dolby digital processer, etc, etc.
the S614 stacker is also pretty good, also available in the '98 range. however, alpine has since upgraded it's DAC from this 1-bit to the M-DAC version.
if you want true dolby digital 5.1 surround sound and multimedia, then you need to have at least the following:
*monitor/screen: whether it be a stand alone screen or an indash fold-away; will have suitable video input
*source: DVD source; industry standard for ICE is fibre-optic digital output; video output to plug straight into monitor
*processor: DTS processor with digital input to process DVD into 5.1 channels, offering 6-channel preoutput (fr-rr L-R, centre, sub)
*preamp/controller: typically a HU that can control the volume of the stereo/surround system
*amplification: amps for all 6 channels
*speakers/sub: fr-rr L-R, centre, sub
to have all of this integrate takes a complex system, and a 'one-brand' setup for the screen/source/preamp/processor is easiest. but it can be done with the PS2.
many options, including:
A.
1. indash all-in-one monitor-controller-DVD player
2. DTS processor with 6-channel output
6.5" kenwood KVT-940DVD +
KDS-P900 processor (RRP$6299+769)
clarion VRX925VD + DVH920 (RRP$4599+TBA)
i believe alpine will be releasing something similar too.
B.
1. indash monitor-controller
2. processor
3. stand alone DVD source: PS2, other
best with a combo of same-brand controller-processor. including alpine, pioneer, clarion, kenwood, etc.
for alpine:
*Ai-NET monitor-controller: CVA-1003E (RRP$1999), IVA-C800E (RRP$3549), CVA-1006E (RRP$2699)
*processor: PXA-H510 (RRP$1399), indash PXA-H700 (more expensive), PXA-H900 (forget it?)
C.
1. stand alone monitor
2. HU-controller
3. processor
4. DVD source: PS2, etc
so you can match a normal alpine Ai-NET HU with an alpine processor and control the system, selecting for the DVD/PS2; preferably a HU that's from at least the 2001 range (as the Ai-NET system was upgraded slightly). i only presume that you can make the processor select for the PS2 as the input; something you'd have to check, coz the HU will not directly control/select the PS2.
clarion, kenwood, pioneer have similar 'bus' systems to add multimedia to existing HUs.
in my own setup that i will install, my alpine HU can control the new processor, allowing selection between DVD, CD, etc. i now have an Ai-NET DVD stacker for better integration instead of the PS2 for DVD (will retain for games though). the configuration i had for Final Battle was only for stereo (2-channel) DVD audio, and not DTS 5.1.
hope this all helps. i can probably elaborate on the alpine setups if you want.
