Full Version: getting into SQ?

hey just realized i have changed heaps bout the way i listen to music
when i installed my first cheapy system i set gains on my 6x9s to max and left it there, then same for sub and my music was heaps more bassy then music and i thought i liked it that way. i thought music has to have heaps of bass to be good

recently installed my next system and i was started with only front splits while saving for sub. i ran the splits alone in front doors and i couldnt believe i told my friends music without bass was so damn good. its so clear and i can hear words and all. i loved it and said i couldve went without a sub if i wanted to, though a system wouldnt be complete without a sub.

finally got a sub and instead of running around crankin it all day i just slightly turned it up to get a bit of lowend. used to be when i listened to a dj album and a song with not much bass i crank the bass up so theres always but now i just leave it lightly booming like in the background and it sounds good

so is this the beginning of me getting into SQ of music? i know i havent got audiophiles ear and prolly wouldnt detect difference in sq with cheaper speakers and all but i feel my style of listening to music has changed

what u all reckon?

All I can say is try not to let it get the better of you, your bank balance will appreciate it, trust me, or to hell with it..

pretty soon you'll find yourself upgrading everything you either drive ( my old delivery hyundai excel panelvan has a cd and 3 way components in it and I drive it for 30 minutes a day !!)or upgrade your home system because it sounds so horrible compared to your car...

welcome.

It is the beginning and definitely not the end.

My home system primarily got me into the SQ scene and i can't wait for my car to be done. Only a few months now (and countless dollars)...

lotulu
haha ur all scary me
lucky i wont be needing a home system coz i hardly at home

i've actually went borrowed heaps original old cds from friends and just sat in the car listening to it. my speakers arnt angled properly i can feel it but having decent splits in the front is already a big difference to just 6x9s at the back

It's a bug alright. The only way to stop it is to go cold turkey for a while like I did and run the factory speakers, but it's not long before it bites you on the ass again. Just be realistic with your budgets and whatever you do don't go getting a loan or credit card or anything stupid like that.

lotulu: It seems we are becoming the latest generation of the Team SQ brigade, or should I say empty wallet brigade.

You know your doing something right when your hear other systems distorting and they think it's good until they hear yours.

don't forget that after having put up with rear-mounted 6x9's and obscenely loud booming bass, ANYTHING is going to sound good
Mickee
They're not lying when they say it's hard on your wallet... I caught the bug a while ago..

I thought i was crazy when a passed $5000 worth of upgrades/add-ons/better components...

New head unit in a month will take me past $10000... scary when you think of it like that...

All money very well spent though I say

CAA is definitely hazardous to your wealth....

All Good tho'.....

We have more good ways to spend your money for you than you could ever imagine.....

so far ive only spent 800ish and i got everything 2 go atm splits, rears, type s sub, HU, wiring, box... oly got a real sh!t house amp atm 4 the sub but will prolly get a 4ch jaycar in a few months 4 the splits and sub
lotulu
nah i've planned no more money after buyin my amp til i get a new car, at least one with a working door lock and preferably an alarm

my first setup all cost me 750$ brand new for everythin inclucing cablin and box. no wonder it sounded ugly. only the HU and sub from that install still lived, the rest dead

my currently splits and sub/box alone cost 700$. even the wires for split cost another 100$, didnt know needs so much to wire splits from amp in boot to door. so then plus another 100$ for rca, power cable etc... then 700ish for my new amp and thats it. 1600$ total, 2x cost of my first system but money well spent. still recycling my old HU but that should go as soon as i get a new car

on a different topic, planning on gettin 92-93 civic SI sedan in 6-12months time. neone know if they ne good for stereo?
shiny_car
slowly but surely you're building up a good system.

civic's, like most honda's, are good for SQ. smallish cabin, low seating position, good kickpanels. too easy.
raziel
thats the reason I bought a Honda - deep dash , plenty of room to put stuff - the commodore took me 4 years and probably 5 system designs to get it to the national finals ... methinks the accord will only take two rebuilds - hopefully...

Haven't been in the 'game' very long myself... but have spent a fair bit also... with a few more upgrades planned. Started with Home audio.. and when I started with car audio I told myself to be careful... but alas that was no good

seriously Lotulu.... set yourself a budget and work within that framework. If later you become filthy rich than upgrade

side note, ive also most definately leaned across a little to the little term SQL (yet to be noted by the Collins dictionary, but im sure it wont be long), so much so that i now have more power running into my splits than i do into my 18's, and really i don't mind it...how's that for odd

Adam..
Just make sure that i dont follow suit..

Im tempted to run the rear splits off the HU, high passed, and running the fronts of my 4 channel Philips, but bridged..

200wrms a side, and
400wrms a sub..
Nice balance or what??
