Hello guys,

Anybody know where I can get the peerless CSX car range of speakers in Australia? WES Electronics (the distributor) is of no help... I asked if they had any all all I get is a one line NO answer in the email?

Cheers!!
Mickee
A couple of months ago I tried to track down these exact speakers... and even asked on this forum.

No, you can't get them. WES components is the only australian distributor of Peerless drivers, and they won't bring any in unless you make an order of around 100 drivers (no bull!)

Damn shame, the 6.5" and 8" CSX drivers look to be winners...

i suppose it's one of the few reasons to source stuff from overseas. although i have no idea who/what country to search!

good luck

Peerless are Danish, and pretty highly reputed in DIY home speaker designing circles, especially their woofers.

Sister company to Vifa and Scanspeak... (you can get Vifa and Scanspeak in australia, but they don't make any car audio drivers... If scanspeak ever brings out a mobile audio line, I'll be the first to source it, ahhh, sweet scanspeak....)

Vifa do make a range of car audio drivers. The importer is http://www.mass.com.au who are in Perth.
I have been running 6 1/2" front drivers for quite a while now.
The scan speak range are very nice but exxy.

If anyone is looking to build some home speakers they have had a sale on for a while now. I've just bought some ss tweeters and 8" vifas to go with them. Should see the size and weight of the tweeters.
Sorry can't help with Peerless.

Bugger... Too bad too they seem to be a pretty good bang for buck lineup.

We car audio peeps deserve more choice...... Paying stupid amounts of shipping & tax by buying overseas as well as forgoing any warranty whatsoever seems stupid. Hell the distributors seem not to give a product the chance in the Australian marketplace.

I'm sure that the manufacturers will be able to cut some slack on the 100 driver orders required to launch a product to break into a new marketplace... or maybe they just don't give a damn which is what I'm thinking at the moment? Or maybe it's the distributors that don't give a damn too?

Hopefully our online store can negotiate a low volume distributorship with some of these smaller companies... I'm sure they'd give some of the larger brands/distributors a run for their money.

But..... all pipe dreams maybe?

I have 4 x 6.5" Peerless mids and some tweets and they sound blody awsome. Somewhere on the goldi sells them in southport. My peerless are 8ohm woofers and some of my mates say i have more bass than they do running 100-150rms to a sub. I cant remember what range i have but they are rated at 100rms and dont mind 150 each:) I will try and find out some contact detales for that place that sells them if you pm me so i dont forget.

Hi UDL,

The 6.5's you have I know are definitely available here in Australia... I saw it on WES's website... It's the CSX car range specifically I'm looking for doing a bot O reasearch to do my girlfriends car all with non mainstream components... Kinda like a test car hehehe..

i think Mass Technologies in Perth distributes a few danish brands like scanspeak and such. Why don't you give them a call. Audioart can also source some really weird stuff so no harm asking them too.
OP
I think some of the top alpine speakers are made by scanspeak ..
battousai
i think they are made from vifa, not scanspeak. i went to the vifa website and their midbass drivers look exactly like the ones form the SPX alpine range.

im shure i saw a Vifa 6.5in mid at jaycar in melb city store just the other day??
Mickee
battousai: Mass technologies only sell Vifa and Scanspeak, not peerless.

(I also think the top alpine speakers are from Vifa, not scanspeak.)

Scanspeak make some of the best raw drivers you can purchase. My personal favourite is the 18W/8546-00... a 7" kevlar cone midbass (8ohm) with a freq. response of 22hz-4000hz (yes, that's right, fs=22hz) and power handling of 100rms... but at around $300 per driver, these aren't in everybodies price range, but if you're passionate about speaker design, you don't mind paying for quality.

i agree wit you there. scans are hrad to beat. i got the 99000 revelator tweeter set and its downright magical. i heard the scan midbass drivers need a heck load of power. is that so??

how is the midrange performance by the way??
finetune
At the moment I'm trying to build some speakers for home use. All vifa centre channel, Scan speak tweets and Vifa 8" for fronts.
All I have to do is work out the maze that is crossovers??

Yeah, the more power the better! All of their mid-bass drivers aren't that sensitive, so you really need to pump the full rated power into them.

The midrange is superb too. If you look at the FR graphs on the website, you can see that all the 7" drivers have a really flat response between about 90-100Hz right up to 3-4khz. The 'sliced paper cones' on some of their newer drivers have been getting great reviews. I'm looking at these for my next pair of serious bookshelves.
