Hi Guys
I have a set of boston pro splits however one of the beautiful sounding NEO5T tweets needs to be replaced. They're damn expensive to replace ($200+ for a single tweet) so I'm just wondering if there would be another (cheaper) replacement option. My preference is for a smooth, warmer sounding tweet which the NEO5T does nicely.
SUggestions?
Thanks
Aaron

that's a bummer.
but i can't see why you'd want a non-matching set of tweets unless you plan on replacing both of them. in which case you might as well get the proper single one you know you like.
the dynaudio MD100 is just as much.
i'm not sure if they can be repaired. might be worth finding out.
good luck

I'll most likely just end up buying a replacement 5T but just thought I'd get some opinions first
Boyd said it was highly unlikely that he'd be able to repair it, then tried to sell me some of his monster tweeters :/

hmmm, i happen to have a set of tweeters off a set of Pro 6.4's......... one of the woofers is cactus, and I'm loaning the crossovers out to a friend with a set of Rally's. Perhaps we should talk?? PM me!

The Boston Neo 5T set retailed for $399.00 per pair as at Feb this year, but the set comes with two tweeters as well as a pair of crossovers. Moreover, the nominal impedance of the 5T system is 8 Ohm, whereas the nominal impedance of the Pro .5 systems is 3 Ohm. I'm stumped! Have you called the Boston distributor to see if you can get a replacement for just the tweeter? Maybe it'd be less than $200, cos that sounds pretty expensive for a single HF driver.
If you're willing to pay that much for a tweeter, there are other options that you might like to consider. Bear in mind, though, that it'd be difficult to find tweeters that you can just swap around for the Boston tweeter, owing to differences in impedance that will alter the crossover frequency, as well as differences in sensitivity.
Nevertheless, it might not be as hard as it sounds. To me, Boston speakers have always had great midbass response, but the treble is a tad too "forward" for my liking. Something like a set of Scanspeak D2905/9300 tweeters will set you back about $300 a pair. These are renowned for their laid-back yet detailed sound, and you could quite easily integrate them with your Boston midwoofers with the use of some capacitors for a first-order crossover and an attenuation circuit (L-pad) to adjust the tweeter level. Failing that, Vifa make well-priced car tweeters that don't sound too shoddy at all.
OK, maybe this is a bit of a wild idea, but still, a little food for thought!

dasher - check pm
R2 - different bloody impedance on the tweets makes life a bucket load of fun! bloody hell!
hopefully it's dasher to the rescue!!
