ok, here's one for any tech-heads out there.
I seem to have a glitch in my HU, I'll be taking it in to get looked at, but that won't be for a couple of days, so I was curious to see if anyone here could help me out or clarify what's going on...
I'm using an Alpine CDA-7969R, I've been playing around with the EQ settings and have come across some kind of problem; when I have the bass (<63Hz) freq. range set to anything less than +4, my speakers emanate a terrible scratching sound in place of a bass beat...
My splits are high passed at 63Hz ATM (no subs currently) and this phenomenom occurs at any volume level...
As soon as I boost this freq. range to +4 or above, the sound disappears and a good healthy bass punch returns (ie. speakers aren't damaged).
The freq. range 63Hz-160Hz doesn't have this problem (ie. I can boost or cut as much as I like, and no ill effects.)
The problem seems to be completely isolated to the <63Hz freq. range... the rest of the 7-band EQ works just as it should.
this is obviously annoying me because I don't want these freq. boosted at all... and when I install my subs, this means they will be boosted quite a lot...

hmm... i'd check the wiring on the splits first. maybe the deck is just faulty

Perhaps the fader for that frequency is dusty/stuffed? I would have that checked first, as things like that can deteriorate very quickly in a dusty environment like a car.

I HAVE THE EXACT SAME DECK, AND THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM!! the damn stracting sound is so loud/annoying/unhealthy.
i find it only really occours with burnt CD's though. However it still does occour with pressed disc's.
Might have to take mine back as well.

Ok, so I'm not the only one....
So has anyone else with this deck experienced this problem?? I know a few ppl on here use the CDA-7969R, maybe you could go play around with your decks and see if the same thing happens to you??
Still don't know what's actually causing it though... all my cabling/earths/power supply are A1...

Update:
Good old Alpine after-sales service... No probs, I'll have a new deck in a couple of days.

sweet. but did they acknowledge that is was a problem?
that's disappointing that walkie has the same issue.
ok, that goes down in the alpine 'shame files'.

I have already contacted Walkinshaw... I'm sure he'll have his sorted out soon...
It just goes to show that product faults can occur in even the very best of equipment, but it's great to know a manufacturer is willing to take care of you.
