hey all
well its getting closer by the day when i pick up my ea ghia
i am slowly planning a sq system for it but ive hit a snag
the car has a gas tank so placing an enclosure in the traditional place behind the back seat is impossible
i was thinking of buiding an enclosure to live against the rear right hand quater panel, that would give me space to have an amp rack in the centre of the boot, house tools etc on the left side and still be able to get to the spare tyre under the amp rack
would placing a sub there disrupt the sound quality? also would a gas tank do the same?
thanks in advance

walkinshaw could no doubt offer his opinion, as he has a similar problem. i believe his orion sub is floor-mounted, firing upwards.
but i see no probs positioning it to one side/corner. it won't affect how the subbass enters the cabin, it may have a small difference in subbass output (maybe better).
there should preferably be a clear passage for the subbass to enter the cabin, whether that be through a ski-port/armrest, or stock vents through the parcel shelf. still, without it, subbass still gets through, maybe just attenuated a bit.
good luck

Ive had a sub located on the righthand side quater panel, and was impressed. It was a cheap 10" only getting 120wrms, but the subbass was still able to penitrate into the cabin withough fuss.
I to have an EA with an LPG tank, but rather than sidefireing, ive foregone the sparewheel and used the well as a subwoofer enclosure. This provides much greater loading, and a punchier and somewhat louder responce.
Although not to do with SQ, with a single 15, and 300wrms ive hit 139.7db @49hz noproblem.

It seems to work ok in my girlfriends car.....i built a sealed fibreglass enclosure into the left rear quarter and it sounds great, looks tidy and keeps her happy because she still got nearly all of her boot space.....
