well, this weekend i will be dismantling my boot to make way for a major upgrade.

whilst i will retain the general layout and amprack shell, i will be parting with my trusty bigger alpine amps, and changing to the impressive audison VRx range. to make room, there'll be a major overhaul of where all my wiring and components will sit.

out with the old:

out:
*2x alpine MRV-1000 2-channel amps + amp link
*alpine PXA-H600 digital processor
*alpine logo
*subbox

in with the new:

in:
*audison VRx6.420 + 2.150 + 1.500
*audison raccord (amp link) + terminal (amp end cap)
*alpine PXA-H510 dolby digital 5.1 processor
*alpine DHA-S680E DVD changer
*coustic XM-5e active xover (centre channel duties)
*new subbox with rear-facing sub

also retaining small alpine MRV-T300 2-channel amp (centre channel duties) and 1 Farad cap. with alterations in wiring, new distribution blocks, and likely a 5th amp.

wish me luck, coz there's gonna be a mile of wiring to be laid. and you know how *cough* quick *cough* i am with my installs!

ah well, no tunes for a while again.

ok now everyone take a look at the date of this post....now we'll all reflect back to this in 18months when the audison alfa is finally complete hehehe
but seriously if the last install is anything to go by, from not just the sound of it, but the install, it'll be most definately worth the wait
Tha Hombre
WOW!!! IMPRESSIVE to say the least Richard!!! The knew setup is going to look FANTASTIC with the VRx amps, and sound even better.

I wish you the best of luck in this endevour!
NUTTTR
lol @ Shiny... he's gonna take all year to get this done, easily... oh well, it'll sound good when it's done, he'll go on a round-australia trip to let everyone demo it for sure, won't you Richard??? lol
Aaron

yeh, drive up here, i wanna hear it!
Damo95
Again??
didnt you just finish the stereo??

Or, didnt it sound good enough for ya??

Either way, the new setup should look and sound awesome, even though it may take you another year to do it all..
After the SPL car, we should have a day at Shiny's place, helpin install the gear.. Just to get it done in time for MAS..
Mr.m3
if ya willing to drive to QLD i'll give you a hand... we'll have it done in a couple of days rather than 364 of them
Maz
You just finished the last install, i wouldn't take it apart until you've got a solid week or 2 to get most of it done in one shot.

You spend heaps of cash not for ur own enjoyment as your without sound in your car for 80% of the time.

If you take less than a month to do it then all is good
shiny_car

what i had in the car was only ever a temporary build-up to the definitive installation.

i'll obviously endeavour to have it up and running again ASAP.

but my time remains limited. although over the next week or so i should have a few spare days to do some solid work.
Sonic Nirvana
Way cool Richard, been waiting for this

25 Hz Ported sub.
Nuff said
Mr_Bob
hope you get it finished in time for FB!!
NUTTTR
Hmmm, in time for FB??? I doubt it.... which year? 2010? lol... it'll be called something else by then, i'm sure !

So whats happining with the old alpine gear
shiny_car
alpine amps have been sent to a good home already.

ubugger: you suk!
Walkinshaw
lets hope im still alive to see the finished install.

Not to rain on your parade, but i reccon the old xx05 alpines look better than the VRx's.

Still. Very nice combination of componants you have there. Lets hope the outcome is greater than the sum of the componants. Going on accounts of your previous system, this one is sure to be a winner.

Get cracking mate.

the pics of the VRx's don't do them justice, the finish is something that can only be appreciated "in the flesh"
the amps will certainly suit the car more, both in cosmetics and musicality.
the V12 look doesn't suit the interior of the car, although it does work well in the boot.
i'm sure Shiny's going to get the false floor/sub box covered to match his interior...if they're still making leather in the year 2010.
and at that age, shiny won't need a remote, he'll be able to puch the HU buttons with his walking stick.
*runs and hides*

not sure if this has been answered in another thread or not, but if the 6.420 is for FS duties, and the 1.500 for sub, does that mean that the 2.150 is for rear fill?
because, personally, i would use it for the centre channel, and use the Alpine for rear fill,
that way you have the same amplifier "colouration" across your entire front stage, and i doubt you care much about how your rear fill sounds...
either way, the 2.150 is going to be overkill.
shiny_car
come near me mr_bob, and i'll whack you with my stick!

but the VRx amps are pretty classy, hey? italian amps for an italian car. what more can i want?

well, nothing wrong with overkill i say. i'm the founding member of Team Overkill.

but my plan is to use the 2-channel VRx for rearfill. although i initially bought it to run my front stage, just like any other happy larry would do with a schmicko VRx. but the acquisition of the 6.420 changed that plan, so i have to use the 2.150 for something!

what's more, as i'll be installing a full multimedia setup, the rearfill will be more prominent than the typical SQ setup. yet i wish to build something capable of SQ competition.

interesting thought, to use the VRx2.150 for the centre channel. indeed the centre handles much 'information' on a DVD, so arguably warrants high power and similar tonal quality to the L/R channels. but it's very difficult to install a 'big' centre channel coz of physical limitations for speakers. a baby audison SRx2 is for centre duties (i must be copying your amp array mr_bob!).

i've just picked up some nice morel hybrid 4" splits. amazingly rated down to 50Hz, although i'll be very happy if they perform as well as advertised with a HP around 100Hz. these will be used as rearfill and centre channel duties. nice compact speakers, and the morel MT2 tweets should blend nicely with the morel supremo's.

so with the amount of work to be done, don't expect to see it completed tomorrow!

rolli: the windows are glass. 10mm on the subbox (will go with 20mm perspex on new box coz the sub will be screwed to it), and 8mm over the amp rack. gotta love glass for its optical clarity.

The VRx series are awesome! I absolutely love my amp, can't wait to get it installed. They will look great in the Alfa shiny...

DrEvil
/me starts crying...

how long was that system up and running for Shiny?!?! maybe 2 months?!?!

Your bloody crazy!!!

One thing i would like to see your system achieve is a wider soundstage... If it wasn't for t-bro's system i would have thought yours was perfect

Can't wait to audition the new system when it is in

Anthony.
shiny_car
hee, hee, i had my completed system running for less than 2 months.

ah well, progress has since been slow but steady, mostly time-limited.

i've since decided i will try and run both my processors, allowing for added tweaking of the ambient tweets. it's just a matter of cramming everything in!

oh, and i won't be needing the recently acquired coustic active xover anymore.
