Was just wondering what impressions people had of the MB Quart qm218.03kx 6.5" component speakers.

I have never heared these but have been offered a barley used set for $130. So before i get them i was just looking for some feedback, you know how it is........

im not to sure where the QM series sits within the MBQuart range as there are

Discus - DSD-xxx
Refrence - RSD-xxx
Refrence Premium - PSD-xxx
Q series - QSD-xxx

(with the Q's being the top)

However being MBQ's i cant see how they could be anything but excelent in sound and build quality and $130 is a bargan for any of the ranges. Espicaly if they are arround the Qseries which go for over $1500

i believe these quarts were released here ~5 years ago. and around the time that MBQ's were still 'the' splits to have in terms of SQ. would perform nicely with a high quality amp.

typical metal dome MBQ tweets equals a fairly bright sound that probably suits kickpanel tweet installation moreso than up high on the dash or mirror sail panels.

$130 sounds good to me (probably retailed for ~$600). just ensure you like the treble.

Yer i was going to put them into the existing pods that are down the bottom corner of the doors..... Cheers Fella's...

If they are the ones I'm thinking of, I had a pair about five years ago and they are a nice sounding speaker, however they don't play all that loudly, if that is a consideration. I see you have JL VR600's at the moment and my understanding is that they were made for JL by a German factory that could have been Quart and if you look at them and listen to them they are a very similar speaker. In fact, I would say that the VR600's are one of the better sub $500 speakers on the market, the old ones anyway, I haven't heard the new ones yet.

To tell you the truth I used to like the sound of the old QM series better than any models after it I had heard. They sounded much smoother and the later ones were harsh in comparison. Of course they still had the bright titanium dome tweeters, but much more listenable than many later models.

I prefered the older paper-coned midbass of the 218.02CX 6.5inch splits...

I had two sets (one front, one rear) in my last car ('85 Corolla hatch)...

They were pretty good as far as being able to stand up to the elements as well (didn't mind being soaked with water inside the door).

Not sure if the 03's were as good or not.

After inspection of the speakers i have decided to just keep the good old JL's, with the new deck installed they sound better than ever before...!!
