Hi Guys

I have boston pro 5.5" splits (and new tweeters thanks to dasherhalo! cheers man!! )

I would like to beef up my front stage as well as my mid bass response by adding a pair of 8" mids in the doors. What would do my splits justice without over powering them? I will be running them with an xtant 404m

Cheers

Smeg,
Hertz have two 8" drivers that will do the job HV200 and HV200L available through web audio direct.
Or as Shiny will sugest SPACE 8 are another option if space is a prob.

Hope this helps

Cheers

there's not a lot of 8" drivers around, limiting your choice.

those that spring to mind include:
*dynaudio MW170: biiiig baskets
*hertz space 8: great if you have very limited depth available
*infinity
*total recoil

there's probably others, but i can't think of them at the moment! and i have no idea on their cost, although $150~250 a driver is probably about right.

the tricky bit may be matching the SQ to your boston's, although that would be less critical for lower frequencies like midbass. probably also difficult to audition them, as not many places would offer them.

those that i've mentioned have all been used, or will be used, by CAA Members, so no doubt are high quality.

good luck

I was going to trial the Pro's with my 8" Orion XTR MB drivers..... but I didn't get the chance!! Can't imagine them sounding terrible, so put them on your list if you can find a pair - about $260 rrp each.

My tweets do the job??

thanks guys
I couldn't find the 8" drivers on webaudiodirect ;?

dasher - I could cry mate, I was taking them out of their mountings so I could put them into my flush mount kit and the grill popped off one, spun around and landed on the tweeter and dented the bloody aluminium coney thing

hope it still works

DOH!!!!!!!

You gotta hate that........
smeg
so do you reckon it's knackered?!
dasherhalo
ah, crap!
how badly???

i had a "dented" metal dome tweeter on my home speakers ( B&W 602's), and they work fine, but I'm lead to believe that they're only a diaphragm over the tweeter below, so.....

plug'em in, cross fingers!

fingers are crossed!!

The same thing happened to my left Pro tweeter. Nothing to worry about although it does bother me when ever I see it.

The dome on the B&W 602's is the tweeter.

Don't ask me, I'm just getting one of the suckers repaired because my 4 year old stuck a knife through one........

B&W dealer told me I was lucky that they were built a little different from a normal tweet, and should be a lot less expensive to repair.

I don't care what the case is: if I can get it repaired cheaper, he can tell me the tweeter's actually located out in the garage for all I care!

cool, so the little aluminium coney thing (tech talk at it's best!!) doesn't actually affect the performance of the tweet?!

Hook it up and listen to it.....providing there are no holes in the dome(cone) you should be ok......just be more careful next time....
