heys i can get a set of 5.25" Alpine F1 splits and a fairly decent price i am only worried because i have a 12" L7 in the back and im not sure weather the 5.25" will keep up. The guy at the shop said that 5.25 is a much better speaker anyway and that i would have no problems with them keeping up with the L7. the splits would be running of a xfire 100.2 and the sub is running of a lanzar 1200D. Any help would be great as i need to know kinda soon to save up some $$$$
thanks

of corse the guy at the shop would say they will keep up, he just wants the $$$$
your better off getting atleast a 6.5in mid ifnot larger,
remember the rule
10in sub = 6in mid
12in sub - 8in mid
and dont ask what u ned if u have a 21in sub in the boot!!

i was thinking though to got the 5.25 and put up with them for a while i doubt they would be that bad and then get a set of 8" and have a 3 way set up. but this would involve a new amp etc so not sure what to do. Come on help me make a decision

It will sound nice they're a very good split and imo 5.25" are better for vocal intensive music.
Sure, you will notice a bit of a difference between mid-bass and sub-bass but 99.95% of systems u will, it takes a perfect system design to eliminate this...
just go for it if u dont like them i'll buy them off u at cost price

..."much better" compared with what? how was he justifying that? he may be right in some regards, but i hope he clarified???
the smaller woofer will be slightly better with upper midbass/midrange reproduction in most cases. however, there's no substitute for cone surface area for the lower stuff. same as with subs, most 15" subs reproduce better really low subbass compared with a 10". a 6.5" woofer will reproduce lower midbass (ie: 70~100Hz range) better than a 5.25" woofer.
but sure, a top quality 5.25" driver will go lower than a cheaper one, so no doubt the F1 speaker will be pretty good. however, it will rely heavily on a high quality installation to get the best from them: extensive sound deadening, solid pods, sealed doors. without that, no 5.25" driver will play down to 70Hz with much authority.
otherwise, you could HP them at ~100Hz and LP the L7 around 80~90Hz.
is a 3-way front stage with 8" woofers really on the cards for you? are you being realistic here? no probs if you are, but i don't suggest buying what appears to be a bargain now only if future plans fall through, coz you only end up with a compromise you may regret.
however, the SPX splits are definitely top quality, and if installed properly, will make an excellent front stage.
good luck

Let me say this, buy right the first time.
They might be cheap now, but it is a waste of money if they don't fit you plans.
Then if you are going to get 8" mids, what type, what amp, what crossover?
Save you money, be informed.
Also why are you getting such a good price? Perhaps anyone could get the same deal, making your deal of a lifetime not so great and you wont be able to sell them off so easily.

all true think i will hold out and wait for a decent pair of 6.5" to come along at a good price other wise i will kinda be stuck with speakers i only brought becasue of the price and not because they were my choice
