Hows this for my first subwoofer system.

Front: VDO HPC-1700 splits (seeing atleast 40wrms, closer to 55)
Rear: VDO GTM-1725 Coax's
Sub: Rockford Fosgate Punch HE 12" (seeing atleast 150wrms in a 2cu/ft box)
Amp: Rockford Fosgate 300x

The only weak link in it is my sony HU

but I got it new for just over half retail price.

Im looking forward to it. My future upgrade path will be another 12" HE punch and a 400s bringing 200wrms to each sub and 150wrms to splits. My current set up is VDO Coax's at rear and Clarion SRS 1624's so it will be a massive leap forward. Its only my second system.

After that... well... maybe another 2 subs and 400s, but not before I upgrade to 8inch 3 ways up front and chuck the VDO splits in rear

For a "first subwoofer system", that's pretty good

There will invariably be an upgrade path which you have already in the planning, but before you get ahead of yourself, live with Stage 1 for a bit to decide where you really wanna go with it/what most needs improving from experience, which can't be beat.
You might be surprised where things lead you.

I certainly have been......

looks good to me.

if the VDO splits sound nice to you, cool. i've not auditioned them, so cannot comment; but they offer some nice quality stuff.

as critter wisely mentioned, see how this setup goes, then reassess for what the next upgrade step should be. IMO, you may not need a second 12" sub if SQ is what you're after. maybe upgrade that HU or add a second amp, one dedicated to the sub, the other for the speakers.

also ensure everything is nicely installed so you get the best from them. so solid pods for the front woofer, angled tweets, and a well designed/constructed subbox.

good luck

VDO splits are basically phillips splits IMO
i had a set of 4"s
quite happy with them

Yeah, im almost 100% certain they are exactly the same... I mean My Phillips coax's came with VDO impinted on the cover ring LOL

Im sure tho that phillips do not make...sorry... re destribute these splits under the phillips name. Infact I have yet to see any splits from phillips. The 4inch splits you had, were they the MPC or HPC series?... Im guessing the model was (?)PC-1300? They are good speakers for their money. I amanged to audition some alpine type R's today, and the clarity was fantastic, so im still unsure as to what to get. Unfortunately there is not place that has any HPC-1700's on the board. Anyone actually heard them?

VDO are really rebadged phillips if anything
I was told VDO bought out phillips car audio branch or somecrap (2-3 years ago)

the splits i have are from the GTM series (phillips) they sounded great, even though I didnt mount them very well.
ELMO
yeah they are fantastic speakers for there price... they hold there own

I think phillips car audio simply gets other manufacturers to make for them

I know their was a phillips amp (2 channel) that when opened up had alpine all over it, it was a remarkable amp that actually outperformed alot of the then model V12's and was half the price *lol*

So yeah its probably a case of phillips rebadging VDO rather than the other way around
