Hi...
Looks like my plans on getting Hertz HS200 8" subs have been blown away, coz it's 19mm too big (depth). So now I'm back to my original plan, which was getting a Total Recoil 8" to use for subbass duties.
Specs are on:
http://www.totalrecoil.com.au/index.php?di...bile&spk_id=004Now, these are designed for midbass - but can also play lower freq. What can I change to make it more of a subbass driver??
Looking at the Hertz HS200, I like the thick surround...does this stuff make any difference??
Anyway, I'm not really sure ... but I would like it modded, so it would be more of a sub bass driver, and still maintain SQ values while keeping its original mounting depth specs (which is more important) and also the fact that it'll sound good in a 1cu ft sealed box.
Thanks.

i'm not familiar with TR stuff, but you could always contact them (ring them) and ask them what they recommend from their range for an 8" sub. i'm sure they could make for you if that one isn't suitable!

Yeh I could always ask them but in doing that I risk getting a $1000 quote...so thats why the q's in the forum, so I just change whats necessary.
$340 each is more than the $286 for 2 Hertz HS200 from Web Audio Direct - so hmmmm, more expense!!!
I should have looked at stereo possibilities before buying my car!!

There are 2 problems with the TR 8s..
Firstly, they do not want to play low.. This can partially solved with a vented box and equalization (which will also require more power..)..
And then there is the problem that they simply do not have enough linear displacement (linear excursion and cone area) to be able to play loudly with enough low end response.. Although if you are building an SQ only system, then it may be fine..
As far as mods go, you'd need to redesign the motor to increase the linear excursion and coil clearance, as well as raising the moving mass and reducing the BL (to lower the EBP) allowing it to naturally play lower..
A taller coil and possibly an extra magnet for the purpose of extra coil clearance may help. (unfortunately the extra magnet will increase BL a little, raising the EBP, although the magnet height doesn't increase the BL nearly as much as wider/thicker magnets) A taller gap may also help depending on the rest of the motor design..
The suspension may or may not need any attention, depending on how much linear travel it has..

Thanks Bassaholic.
What I'm gonna do, is ask em how much those changes will be? If they turn out to be too much, I think i'm gonna have Scott resdesign the box for 3 10" in the spare wheel area. Coz 8" from TR are already $340 each...thats $680, and for 2 Hertz 8" is $286 from web store, and those 8" are designed as subs so they'll play low (I think).
I think $680 for 2 8" is a bit much already and I prolly wont be happy with them.
Scott says that 90mm is absolute maximum, so I think even a 2cm spacer is out of the question.
