Hi, i'm new to SQ and just got myself a helix hxa500 amplifier (5 channel). Does anyone have the specification of this amp? What SQ setup would maximise the performance of this amp? Thanks in advance

Hi!

This Amp has an very analytic sound. Donīt use metall-tweeters, because this combination can cause an aggressive sound. I had used the HXA-400 (4-channel) for my Scanspeak-tweeters. In my opinion even that was too aggressive (used Monster-chinch and silver cabele) so I replaced it with an old Genesis SA50.

regards Michael from Germany - hope my english isnīt too bad

mmmmm, helix and brax.... *drool*

nice stuff.

i've never physically seen them or used them. the HXA-500 mkII is rated at:

*4x50 + 1x170WRMS into 4ohm
*4x70 + 1x250WRMS into 2ohm

should be nice.

hope this helps.

There is a configuration i'm considering atm,

-Dynaudio 240 gt split running of the 4 channel bridged to 2 channel.
-use the mono channel to power a 12 inch sub (not sure what brand? maybe the xtant hexagon series?).

What do u think? is this configuration any good for SQ? What other 12 inch subs offer the best performance for SQ?

hmm looks like you have a verry nice system under way make sure to keep us all updated with pics etc.

That would be a great setup... maybe consider using the system 240 mk11's if you can fit them in, they tend to have a bit more solid midbass than the GT's (but the GT's are still great, I've got a pair.)

Remember, you only have 250wrms (@ 2 ohms) on offer for the sub, so make sure you select a sub that can play to its optimum with around this much power...

that would be very nice.

but as mentioned, i'm not sure you'll have sufficient power for the xtant (rated to 500WRMS). it'd still go very, very well, just depends how much power you'd really need; and that's tricky to determine (eg: whilst my monobloc is rated to 560WRMS for my 4ohm sub, i have the gains tuned 'down' for spectral balance...so probably have less than 400WRMS on tap which is more than enough for my SQ needs).

so 250WRMS may be enough. and given you're in perth, you can speak to yanddy at audio art & tech to see from his experience if that's sufficient power to balance well with the dyn's.

other good subs worth investigating would be the JL audio 12W3v2, image dynamics IDQ12v2 (if available), or a phoenix gold titanium series subbie.

good luck

hmmm yummy.

How about a DLS magnesium 12"?
