having just acquired a kicker L7 15" i placed it in a 2 cubic foot enclosure (that i had left over) and was just wondering whats the ideal volume for one of these?
is a ported setup with ones of these any good (for low and loud SQ) or should i stick to sealed????

do you have the thiele-small specs for it? in particular Fs, Qts, Vas?
i'm not sure, if like the L7, the design changed (thus the specs) between the 2001 and 2002 models.

fs = 22.9
qts = 0.529
vas = 213.232litres

well, the specs i have then are:
*Fs 22.9Hz
*Qts 0.524
*Vas 213L
so just confirm.
as such, i'd suggest a sealed box at least 2.5cuft. bigger will provide a slighly less boomy response, so up to 4cuft would be ideal.

i notice on the kicker website, they recommend a minimum of 1.5cuft sealed. on WinISD software, it suggests a slight boomy response curve around 80~100Hz. however, proof is in the listening, so if it sounds good to you in 2cuft, no sweat.
and i wouldn't go ported.
