Is there anything better than a W7 for SQ?
Disregarding the price of subs, (well almost, budget is a max of $1700 per sub) is there anything better? If I go this far with subs their would be two 10inch running off two VRx1.500EX2. Not sure if its worth spending that much yet, cos I could buy a decent car for that much!
What size enclosure do W7s need?

W7's are certainly "up there" for SQ.
Whether they are worth the $$ in purely sonic terms compared to (say) Brahma or IDMAX is up for discussion.
For example, a W6v2 is essentially the same as a W7 SQ-wise up to 500 watts, and about half the price, so depends on how much you value the SQ over that power level. 2 woofers at 500 watts each is hella loud in an SQ system.......
For mine, when it comes to SQ, I'd rather spend the $$ on the front stage etc and save the $$ on the subs at that level.....

Anything better than a W7? I'd say for sure. Infact, I'd say plenty

a/d/s/?
No way! Good amps, thats where it stops.
Velodyne Servo-controlled subwoofers are excellent and perhaps the only thing in that list that surpasses the W7, apart from maybe Utopia subs, but they do not have the flexibility of going as loud.
Interesting that both the Utopia and W7 have the same voice coil impedence...

The JL12W7 is indeed an interesting and high-quality product that by all accounts sounds very good. The price of a JL12W7 on caraudioshopping.com, a US based website is $559.00 US. Image Dynamics IDMAX12 retails on the same website for $499.00. The IDMAX12 retails in Australia for $849.00. Following on from this the JL12W7 should retail for around $949-$1000. (I price all the products I import using price parity, ie, if you convert $499US into Australian dollars at an exchange rate of 60 cents to the dollar you get an Australian retail of $831.00, pretty close)
What I am saying is, just because a product has an astronomical price tag, doesn't always mean it is astronomically good.

Hutch, the Oz RRP of the 12W7 is $1698. Why? I dunno, ask CustomCar...
Unfortunately the IDMAX isn't available in 10 inches, or else there would be a good comparison.
(BTW I have a 10W7 sitting in my wardrobe as we speak, about to leave for a new owner. I got it for just over half the Oz RRP of $1298.)
Nevertheless, my own W7 was not sourced within the country, it is already a premium driver, no need to pay another unnecessary premium on top, which is almost the cost of another woofer!
It's a damn shame that the US-Au pricing of JL isn't close to that of ID.

In that price range? I think the US RRP is actually more expensive than the US RRP of the W7. Although for the price you do get two (is it voice coils or diaphrams?) for SPL and SQ!!!
I take it anything over $800AU is in that price range.
Awesome sub.
