currently i'm running jaycar kevlar splits as my front stage which are being powered by an alpine flex2 amplifier...
the amplifier is a 2x40wrms and i'm happy with the SQ being provided by it...HOWEVER, the splits are rated at 60wrms and i'm wanting to (if my budget allows, and it is WORTH me doing so) upgrade the amp to a 2x150...
my questions are:
1) will i lose any SQ by changing from the alpine flex2 amp (equivalent or so of a v-power, the lower model alpine amps) to the response amp?
2) i would definitely adjust the gains appropriately, but would i notice an increase in mid-bass or volume or anything from the upgrade (40wrms to 150wrms)?
i currently already have a response 2x150 which is bridged and running my subwoofer...so i GUESS i could find out by myself by temporarily hooking it up to the fronts, but that would require a lot of work (removing seats, unhooking cables, etc etc etc)...so, i'd probably go ahead with a purchase (on the group buy or something) as long as i could be sure i would AT LEAST keep the same SQ as what i've currently got out of my little alpine amp...
has anybody done any comparisons or is anybody running the 2x150 as the amp for some splits? what are you thoughts on the matter?

i would say there would be no drop off in SQ changing those amps, the extra power will be great for the splits and will improve their performance drastically

Save your money and sound dead'n your doors. Personally an Alpine amp will sound better than a response, as that extra power you could have wouldnt be used to a large extent.

I run the Reponse 2x150 for my splits and I'm very happy with it. I can't judge the Alpine amp because I haven't heard it, but we're not at the extreme end of the SQ scale so I couldn't imagine there'd be any noticable difference. Logic would suggest that you're looking out for a disaster story that would warn you off the amp for splits, otherwise you'll buy the amp. I doubt you'll find such a story.
The speakers will definitely benefit from the extra power; they should be able to reach their potential. So you'll probably be able to crank the volume on them a bit more, but unless the old amp wasn't powerful enough to reach your maximum comfortable listening level, it may not mean much.
All in all, the Response amp suits my needs quite well. If I had to recommend an amp to power a decent pair of splits, it would be the one.

How good are your electricals??? From memory, those amps are current-hungry, so your battery, altenator, wiring, etc, had better be up to the task! Granted, you won’t be drawing full current, but that’s one area where “overkill” can quickly become “waste of time”.
What is the power handling like on the splits? I don’t think they’ll even be able to take full advantage of the power available from the Response amp, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing: properly set gains will ensure safe performance.
I’d say the amp was overkill for those splits, but if you thinking about upgrading the splits, or putting the 2nd Response amp on sub duties (ie: another sub?!), then it’s a great step in the right direction, circumstances permitting (ie: your electrics)

my electrics are all fine...i've tested everything with my multimeter and it is all good (no voltage drop, no lights dimming, etc)...
my alternator was also replaced only last year (it's an 80amp one)...i'm running 4 gauge cable to a distribution block where 2x8 guage are going to the amps...
i really SHOULD NOT spend the money at the moment...i don't really have much cash spare and considering i don't NEED the 2x150, i probably won't get it (just yet anyway)...
the splits get pretty damn loud off my 2x40wrms alpine amp anyway, so i should just be happy with what i've got (for the time being!)
i think i'm just being greedy...my system already sounds sweet but it is very hard to stop myself...it is like it has taken control of my body!
