In everyones personal experience and opinion what are the best mids and highs for a fully active front stage,( i am planning to use an audison vrx 6.420) ie how good are the morels supremo super tweeter or focals tlr, and as far as mids go in something like a 4 inch are hertz good, whats better, im planning to use hertz space8's for the midbass, unless there are any better suggestions ?
midbass will b in doors and mids and highs will b in a pillar !

The Supremos are superb but have a large area to mount esp on a pillar.
Morel does a 4" cone mid that would be a good match with it and will be a good thing to go down low enough to cover the 300Hz-up spacial/image cues.

I've heard Focals and Dyns (decent two way sets anyway, but not the three ways). I still put the Boston Pro 6.x above them. Love those speakers. They do make a three way component, but with regards to active amplification, here's the kicker: I love the passive crossover that comes with them.

If someone offered to trade me my active, balanced, makes-coffee-in-the-morning front stage for a pair of my old Bostons, complete with their standard crossover network, I'd probably be at the post office tomorrow morning arranging the shipping. Active not *always* better. Isn't it Hutch (distributor for Dyn gear, CAA member aswell) that's always waxing lyrical about the Dyn crossovers being fantastic with their respective speakers?? Food for thought.

If money is no option, it's usually a case of
a: not too many people can offer objective, useful advice, because lets face it, not too many people change their multi-$$$ front stage 4-5 times! A lot of people get their front stage nirvana in place, and leave it alone for a while.

and b: if it were my multi-$$$ being spent, I'd want to hear what the hell I was spending my money on! Use these forums as a tongue in cheek guideline, because once you start throwing mega bucks around, it's all going to sound "good", just in different degrees. Remember: what sounds "harsh", or "tinny" or "smooth" to another person could sound totally different to you, either better or worse.

If you don't already have an intimate knowledge of a wide range of high end speakers (and who does, excluding Mssrs Rushton, Dupriez, 'Punky, etc), use the suggestions you get from here as your shortlist, and then listen to them, whenever, whowever, where ever you can. See what measures up to *your* standards.

I'll kick you off with a suggestion for your shortlist (on top of the Bostons!): Dyn's have an enclosed midrange, which makes mounting them a damn sight easier than mids that need an enclosure......

Heyyyy, long post: probably not what you asked for!!

Blame the wine and boredom!!

Still, I change my mind on audio setups 3 times a weeks, so maybe a bit of unsolicited advice will spark another idea!!!

Cheers
