mmkay just wanted to know how many of youse have got it turned on, personally i only use it for mp3 music cause it improves clarity but otherwise i dont really have a use for it????? anyone disagree?
claf_43
I actually leave it off for mp3 now, my old mp3 disks burnt on an older burner sounded real bad. where as my new burners mp3 disks arent great but are much better.

It does help with a little extra mid range on nomral cds but the highs sound horrible

I was actually looking forward to using this but of all the features on the deck this ones the worst. Bass focus comes in next as all it does is change time alignment for 2 speakser at once

i havent had much time to play around with my 7892E yet. these things dont have an EQ do they?

I use it sometimes, it depends on the CD and music. Sometimes i leave it on but adjust the bass/treble and frequency settings, otherwise i switch it off and re-adjust bass/treble settings.

It really depends on your taste and how you like the music to sound. A lot of 'audiophiles' will tell you they like their music natural and therefore don't like to use equalisers and processors.

use it,always on, doesnt affect much (exept for mp3),i dont think it make yr system sound worse, well mine don't
Gino00
yeah thats what i thought so i guess it basically acts as a loud function on other decks then?? no?
claf_43
a loud function with three seperate levels, best to just try for yourself and see what you like

some songs can suit it more then others as well
vti-2
It's like an advanced loud function...if that makes sense. Most decks just boost certain frequencies whereas the Alpine decks allow you to use MX and still adjust bass/treble/frequency etc...
Gino00
yeah spanx guys this function stays off
Sathid

I use it on my 7892e and find it does improve music especially radio.
Gino00
no im not talking radio, i really couldn't care less about the SQ of the radio lol
Big Fella
I leave it on, mp3's sound so much better and in my opinion some cd's sound better with it on, most sound little different but definantly on for mp3 playback.

I don;t know about you other MX users, but I have a sneaking suspicion that something funny is going on with this feature. I have a current generation Alpine with MP3 and MX in my car. To be honest, with all the controls set flat and the MX off I think the straight output from the deck sound woeful! In fact, I think it sounds so bad that I'm compeled to test it to see what the output does with everything set flat.

This would then make the MX function a great selling tool when used in comparison with the deck's flat output. When I compare to it another CD player though I think the flat output has been, err, 'toyed with'.

I'll let you guys know what I find if and when I get around to testing this function.

Anyone remember the BBE Sonic Maximiser? Alpine used to have that too. It was claimed to 'align harmonics' or some gibberish that couldn't be tested or measured. When I review one of their units with this feature I plugged the outputs into and RTA and played pink noise. Guess what, it added 6dB of treble and 9dB of bass boost when switched on!

Now I can't vefiry or deny the whole 'harmonics alignment' claim, but I can sure a s certain say that what you hear when you turn it on INCLUDES equalisation - making a straight upn jusgement of BBE's claim impossible.

I hope Alpine isn't taking BBE one step further under a different name. Not that anyone outside of their R&D or marketing departments in Japan would be able to tell us...

I use MX on my 7893R, its allrite, i mainly just have it set on 1 for mp3's, depending on their compression ratio. It also gets used for dooin Main'ys, as it boost the bass a bit, and I can turn the internal amp off and just have the sub going (yes, chilish I know)

Damon, remaber DHE on the previous line up of HU's, init this the same as MX with a different name?
Damon
Who knows?

What I can say is that every year or two it seems like a new feature needs to be introduced like DHE or MX or BBE that magically improves the sound. Every time a new one is created the old one dissappears.

Oh well, that's marketing for you...
