G'day,

i going to purchase a new sub shortly and i am currently looking at either a jl 12w3v2, a pg ti or a 2nd hand jl 10w6v2.

Obviously the w6v2 is going to be the best but will it fill my ed falcon? it's going to run off a jl 500/1 amp.

Any ideas about other subs would be great too.

Thanks
craigt
if your going to the expence of any of these subs why dont you buy a 12 w7 you'll pay close to if not over a grand why not buy the best u can afford?

In a large sedan you'll need some decent excursion and cone area to make enough output, and a since 10-inch will probably be too small. Regardless of the extra excursion of the 10W6 the 12-inch should still be louder.

Thanks fellas

I didnt want to got the 12w6 because i would by the 10" second hand for about the same price as the others.

For around about $500 what would you recomend for my car then. Maybe the focal 33k in the for sale section if it is still up for grabs?

In a big sedan esp sealed I would ideally use twin 12s if you can, for the efficiency the cone area will give you.

I am very happy indeed with the the PGTi's I am using with my JL 500/1. Superb driver at a sensible price.

What are the PG ti like SQ wise? What sort of enclosure size do they need?

Also how do they compare to the jl 12w3v2?

Thanks

For SQ, and being an SQ guy, I would rate the PG Ti very highly.
The 12s need about 31 litres sealed each and work with great articulation in that.

They SLAM real nice as twins with a 500/1

Critter, did you get the DVC ones? How are they set up? Obviously you prefer the PGs but i can get the JLs cheaper, what sort of difference are there between them?

wouldn't the 500/1 under power the 2 PGs?

You cant underpower anything. Its a myth. The 500.1 is quality amp with significant head room and so will drive the Ti's fine. You may be able to get a bigger amp and the Ti's may go slightly louder, but as long as you have enough power to balance sound with your fronts, there is no point going for a bigger amp.

I use a PG amp rated at around 500-600 watts for my 2 12 inch PG subs, and it is plenty.

Anyway if you could underpower anything you would not be able to listen to any system at low levels and we all know that ppl listen to systems at low levels all the time.

2 10s that are high excursion(like PGs and JLs), in the right size box with enough power will work fine. There is more to it then just size of subs.
