Yes I am after peoples opinions on subs again. I am still deciding what I am going to do with my system since I sold my two 12" subs but since I am suffering Bass withdrawal allready I think I am probably going to buy another sub. I am down to two subs since I cannot get a listen to the PG Ti12s.

JL Audio w3v2 12" sub - $475
Boston Pro 12" sub - $585

The sub will recieve 691wrms off my Class D MTX and I was wondering which sub will better be able to handle that much power and which sub will require the smallest box while still providing decent bass in a large sedan? I am looking at running the sub in a sealed enclosure facing through the ski port of my VX SS commodore. Would I be better off rear loading the sub since I am only going to have a single 12"? Which sub will give the best SQ as I am not into huge bass just something nice to listen to at moderate levels?

So in short anyone want to comment which of these subs will suit what I have written above or provide another suggestion?

Thanks

hey there senator, did you go to dorans and ask him about the w3v2? Seems like a high price quoted there...

well, i think you already know what i have to say about the w3, so i wont bother repeating myself

but i will say this. 691WRMS is enough to power 2 w3s with very confortable overhead so if your budget allows(and you can get the w3 for around as much as i did), you may want to consider going for 2 w3.

No idea how the boston sounds, but i would expect it, based on its reputation and price, to sound mighty fine. But for that price, why not spend a little more and go for a w6? you have enough power for it anyway...thats what i would do...cheers

Nah I havent been to see Tony yet, well I went on Sunday and couldnt find the place so I was using my best quote so far for both subs. Do you know how much the W6 costs and what it is like? I havent heard this sub myself. For weights sake I am trying to stay away from two 12s.

Thanks for the reply.

I'd go the 12w3 V2 they'll go pretty good with the 600wrms. Prolly take most of the power too.

I dont have a clue how much the w6 costs, maybe a couple hundred more than the w3 at most but thats just a guess....i'd go for it anyday, since you're talking about a really really good sub where the w6 is concerned...its basically a w7(the ultimate sub) with lower power handling,i.e. 500WRMS. I would say your amp is perfect for it. Anyway if you drop by Tony's go ask him for a price...you'll never know....!

The word im getting from other peeps in the car audio world, is that the JL 12w3v2 is too over priced, but i still rekon they are one of the most sexiest subs out there! Other subs which seem to have a good word about them include:

PG Ti's
Image Dynamics IDQ
Xtant x1244
Infinity Kappa Perfects 12.1D
Adire Shivas

Id go with the JL or xtant subs!

oh well in your case go the JL.

I got my JL for $350 from JB, so you'll probably be able to haggle them down
DD Phil
The Bostons kill the JL in terms of power handling and definition.

I recently put a pair of W3s and a JL 500.1 into a car and was very annoyed when I could pole the subs easliy in a SEALED box! The 500.1 isn't that powerful!!

Definately see Tony for a great deal, while you're there ask for a listen to a DD 2012 or 3512, I'll think you'll be impressed.

w6v2's are like a grand for a single 12" but are supposed to be worth it

Wow nearly everyone has recommended the JL sub. However I am still left wondering about the other questions. I have decided to keep my system in even if I do Clubsprints but I am going to try and do it with the least weight possible but still retaining my tunes and decent SQ. I really dont want to spend more then $500 street price on the sub.

So I guess I am after opinions on the following:

1. How small a box can the single 12" JL w3v2 be mounted in without loosing SQ and Bass?

2. Which way should I face the enclosure to maximise Bass?

3. It seems I have two answers on the question of power handling of the JLs any one else care to comment? What is meant by poleing the subs?

Thanks for the great responses and help guys!

Definatly try to listen to and check out a PG titanium 12"...had a listen and it will be my next upgrade from the PG tantrum as soon as i save the money up...(only $150 to go...yay!)

Has 500wrms power handling, very sexy cast basket (JL w3 is too plain for my liking), good sq, the list goes on....and face it eveyrone has jl... so be different, stand out and go PG...

I think the PG is a great looking sub but I have learnt my lesson and will not buy car audio without hearing it and I cant find anywhere in Sydney that can demo me that sub. So I am left with the other two options.
