Well i have finally got most of my parts, but before i commit to my f/s i thought i should run through it.

it comprises of:
8" Mordaunt Short components (cant find specs on them)but ~90wrms
5.25" Soundstream Exact series splits 75wrms
1" silk dome Soundsteam 75wrms

another Q which is not SQ related
is there any diff using say 8ohm 8" home speakers? or is it not a good idea.

the 8ohm mids wont pose a problem if your running the front semi active, just use gain controls to balance out responce.

looks to be a fine setup comming allong

I’m assuming the MS speakers are home drivers?? There can be issues with the way they’re enclosed, but no one is going to say it *won’t* work! I wouldn’t recommend it as a rule, but that’s because in most instances, the home driver that’s being transplanted into a mobile audio installation is being done so from a el-cheapo set of speakers to save money: the MS speakers don’t really fit into that category!

The impedance of them isn’t really an issue if you have sufficient power and the ability to play with the gains to match you other speakers……..

I guess I shouldn’t really comment on the SS speakers!

If you’re not 100% happy with the MS drivers, I might have a set of 8” Orion fronts for ya: I know they work particularly well with the SS’s!!!! Depends on whether I ever find out what’s going on with that Dynaudio sale!!!!! C”MON CYBERPUNKY – ENOUGH SUSPENSE ALREADY!!

lol

you guessed it.

still undecided on 8" though.. damn windows!

gonna do some searching for a written off laser with 'leccies
Ole'
how much extra will they cost?

just found out just how heavy these MS's are... 1.5kg each!

too heavy and bulky.

Daniel Price: you've been struck off my Christmas card list this year!!

Seeing as I'm not getting any Dyn's for my Birthday, the Orions are probably staying where they are. RRP was $259 each, and seeing as I'd have to pay retail to replace them, I'd probably say $180 each. Not a great bargain, I know, but I've got no incentive to sell them now: sorry!

BTW: will be ready with the Exacts fairly soon....

Ok, deicided to dump 3ways for now

so i'm looking for a set of 6.5" that can handle their power.... like lots of power. 120wrms+ at least.

any ideas

sorry dasherhalo i need 6.5" now.. not 5.25"
PartyJase
dyns, focals, bostons, alpines, morels etc
most of the upper echelon of speakers wil be able to handle that kinda power. probably need it or more to really get hte most from them.

Olie, thaught of multiple 5.25's?

3 in your door would look nice. Run one as a midrange down to about 200hz then run the other two from 85==>200hz
Ole'
ahhh no walki..

i just have room for a 6.5 Atm
let alone 3 5.25"

well my zapco is pumping out 260wrms per chan... so that gives you an ide4a of teh power i want to utilise

I run CDT audio HD6 mids and Dynaudio tweeters, i have 2x350wrms on tap, which is ALOT i admit, and my speakers really get driven...... Largely the power handling comes from the fact that the tweeters are xovered at 5khz, which is what the stock CDT x'overs have for the mids, it's a very high xover point, allows more power handling for my tweeter, but the mid goes down to about 65hz i think, and it DOES crank and the amp does get fairly hot from cranking it, so it's safe to say it uses alot of the power.... Not entirely sure how long my mids will last, BUT, the setup has proven to be very good, and with the right setup (install) it would sound awesome.... However, as with all 6.5" mids (actually 7") they miss the LOW LOW notes... if you want me to be honest, the PG 3 ways look nice (9" midbass!!!)... And was what i was looking to "upgrade" to...... i just can't justify spending almost 3 times what my current set cost me to sound "a little" better. however, it's a step i will take oneday, i'm sure.
