Anyone in melb get your hands on a copy of today's AGE...middle page of the Green Guide there is a story about the new test CD comissioned by Alpine to demo their new range of F1 gear. The CD even includes a completely blank track...perfect to check for any noise. The CD was made by the guys who made Highway One a few years ago.

Cheers

The last time I spoke to Paul Graham (Alpine) this is already no longer available.

There were discussions to give it a rebirth under the CAAASCA Test / Judging CD but I don't think it is really viable at the moment.
ix
the Highway 1 cd, was that to test out the F1 system as well ?
Marc
Nah Highway One was the previous CD.
This one is called First Encounter.
ix
ohh so First Encounter is the current CD used to test out the F1?

my highway 1 cd is fairly old...talking 5+ years...
Marc
Got it in one ix. But as I said it's extremely difficult to get a hold of a copy of it now.
ix
makes it hard to test a system before CAASQ if the cd's aren't around
Marc
- but doesn't matter.

Doesn't matter what CD [CAASQ] judges use for judging. The tracks selected highlight various aspects related to areas that make up the overall sound quality.

There are many test cd's around that offer many of the tracks that the First Encounter cd uses anyway.

If your system is built for sound quality competition, and you know a little about what you are doing, you shouldn't be overly concerned whether you have this disc or not.

I have been trying to get this CD thru local Alpine dealers with no result....

It's made of unobtainium like the PXA-H700 it would seem.
Stone
Sorry, off topic...

How come you brought up a 2 year old post? Is this new info?

Also, can you still get Highway One test discs?

Marc
I think they'd fetch a nice price in the FS forum haha.

I'll email Alpine and find out what the official word is on the availability of this CD.

I've got Highway 1 and Car Audio Nationals III. these are pretty much the same, bar the extra track on CANIII. Sheffield's My Disk is good, as is Soundstream's Bass Cows From Hell...

Both of the first ones I mentioned have a blank bit.

Is anyone prepared to burn some copies of the new Alpine demo disk?

Bugger copywright, as they won't make enough of ém! I just want a good test disk that is the same as whats used for SQ judging. Like the IASCA disk

The problem with copying them apart from OBVIOUS copywrite infringements would be that most often you cant get an EXACT 100% the same copy so the copy may have reduced quality which makes it pretty much pointless doesnt it??
Poida
First Encounters is a HDCD, so unless you have a HDCD burner good luck with it

HDCD format burns as per regular CDs.

I've got a few original HDCDs which I've copied (backup) using my burners (Teac and Liteon). They work and registered as HDCDs on my CD player.
Fudd
do i have a copy??? YES!!!

haha

and yes my gf's SQ car was tuned with this disc.

and NO ya all aint getting it HAHA!!!
clinker
he he ...

do i have a burner ... YES !!!

do i get into trouble when my friendly alpine representitives read the board and know what my name is and have my personal mobile number and will call me and abuse me if i said yes ... HELL YEAH !!!

seriously, i imagine quite a few people will have em .. if not, pm me and i will talk to alpine and see if they have any more ... i know, whenever i right the order i get em ... so yeah ...
Mr.m3
I too have this disc(i got it when i did the F#1 status training)
It has to be by far one of the best SQ cd's i have in my collection
Tha Hombre
I don't understand how people can say that burning a CD reduces the quality of the original recording. Unless ofcourse there are scratches on the CD.

Think about it, it's a digital recording (not analogue), all encoded with 0's and 1's. It's just a file like any other file. You're not going to get half of a Word document if you burn a copy, right?!?

not exactly ... in purfect world yes, but different burners actually add to the sound, or subtract ... or f#@k with it !!! i know that i have a problem with my home burner, the software, or actually the burner, so some combination of the above, actually adds noise onto the first two minutes of any cd i burn from it ... its a little strange, cause only real high end gear picks it up ... the f#1 status cd player picks it up ... my eclipse picks it up ... yeah ... i cant explain ... most high end home gear does the same ... reall weird ...
Stryker
Yes, burners do add noise of their own to your CD's.

The best burner for music is the Yamaha F1E, it has audio mastering and other features that reduces any chances of adding noise to your backups.

I bought a copy of Alpines F1 HDCD last year at Central Car Radio (VIC). Give them a call on 9563 9500 to see if they have any left.

They also had Alpines F1 DVD.
