I've been reading the past posts on these speakers here and also in other forums, while Hertz is not well known in the USA the others are, and it seems to me that the new 'fad' in the usa is 'seas lotus' speakers? and before that was rainbows?

Are these just passing fads or have the MBQ /Dyn/ Focal designs become somewhat outdated and new stuff like seas lotus /rainbows /hertz are taking over - in terms of design and sound reproduction, etc?

Same with the amps - PG, PPI, RF used to be the tops, now, its stuff like Brax, Tru Technology, ARC Audio, Zapco, etc?

While I'm new to this forum, I've been in car audio for about 10 years now, but been a bit out of touch for the last 3 years or so.

Please post your opinions and comments and lets get a good discussion going!

i dont think it is a factor of being out dated i think it is more the fact that when a new product is released there is a big hype over it and becasue of that people start talking about that product. I dont think any of the products u mentiond will ever be out of date because they are all some great sounding products.
P.s out of interest where u from in perth??

These days dont worries about whats teh "fads" are and listin to what is watt
Nuffsyd
yeah, I know a watt is a watt, I also know that a watt today is not the same as a watt in 2 or 3 or 5 years time...

The problem is that I could go listen to a set of "x" speakers and think that they are great- not knowing that there are others out there that I may like better.

subwayboy, I live in willo/shelly.

alot of it depends on who you ask and why !!!

its kinda hard to recommend high end speakers cause year to year they can get better and worse depending on what comes out ... sometimes the latest offerings are not always what is best to your ears ...

brands like dya, focal, rockford, pg, have made a name for themselves by continously producing good quality products over the years ... does not mean to say that some years the products are not better then other years ...

just go to alot of shops, ask people what they run in their own cars and why ... and listen to what they have to offer

Tell me about it when was the last time someone mentioned infinity perfect's ??
And the best bit about high end gear it the chances of listing to something decrease the more the product is worth. Obviously company's can't afford to have all top of the line gear on the boards, so the "leap of faith" taken by people is huge (stupid) but is done everyday.

Yeah, why is it not many people are using Infinity drivers these days? I had a set of Infinity Kappa 3-ways in one of my cars about 8-9 years back and they sounded far better then anything I have listened to on demonstration boards since.....

I am realy keen to listen to some Infinity Perfects if anyone knows a dealer betwen Newcastle and Sydney. I live in Newcastle and unfortunately it seems none of the dealers here even stock Infinity anymore for some reason

Ive got a set of the Infinity Refernce splits. They arent too bad for what they cost. Not many people stock them. Only problem that I found with them was that they dont handle a lot of power and dont rally have enough mid bass for my liking.

the biggest problem with infinity over the last years has been its service ... well over the last five or so years to my knowledge anyways ...

back when i first started in car audio, when infinity was just brought by its current importer, i had four infinity amps away getting service from the supplier, but no one had service information on any of the models ... the amps we sent away were away for five months and where never actually fixed ... since then, yeah ... trusts gets lost pretty quick man not the products fault, was not bad gear, just takes a while for the faith to come back is all
zayne
I never had any troubles with Infinity's service. I got in contact with them via email and they were very quick to respond. They were very willing to help except they could not due to their comapnies policy about posting outside the USA. They were very helpful however and gave me the distributors name and contact details where i could take my gear down to get it looked at. TDJ (distributor) were also very helpful.

most addicted car audio'aholics are sluts! What I mean by that...they will jump from brand to brand cause its new...and they have heard good things. Americans are probably the worst doing this also! They may be happy with what they have..but they are always looking for that Zenith!

Best you can do...is to shop..listen and make the best judgement on what you think you want/like/hear. I had my last comp set for 4yrs before replacing it.. and I only did cause I got some better speakers for a steal..and the wifes needed em....oh well..

Hertz and Audison were only released on the US market a little over 12 months ago, as for many years Elettromedia (the company who owns Audison / Hertz etc.) were mainly focused on Europe.

Considering all this they have done very well to gain recognition in one of the toughest markets in the world that is heavily biased to USA made brands.

The Hertz and Audiosn sucess in the USA is NOT a fad, it is recognition of a great quality product delivering excellent value for money in its product range.

I agree with a few of the points in there including the one about Audio Whores. I am a firm beleiver in the older gear to be honest. I run some 4 year old alpines and an equvialent EQ and PPI to match but to date I am happy with the sound they are capable of making and the same combonation has won QLD SQ comps in the past (back in the IASCA days).

Jumping ship for me means that I will upgrade the alpines and my really nasty deck to something a little more fancy like a set of Dyn's and an eclipse but only after sitting in many cars and fiddling with as many sets as possible before putting the cash on the counter.

I think these fads are a common thing in america but thats just cos it's bloody america.

Cheers
Rex.

P.S I love my Hertz ESK's.
