Has anyone had an experience with the Navarone Line level converters?
http://www.davidnavone.com/adaptor_products.htm

I have a Hi-level converter on my Audison SRx (which powers my sub)... thought that maybe the built in converters would be good enough for the sub.

Was going to get an external converter for my LRx (front speakers).

Are the Navarone's really worth it? Is the site reliable?

I was thinking of running rear speakers off the head unit. If I have speaker wires running into a converter (or line level input on an amp), can the HU still power the rear speakers and at the same time provide a signal to the converter?

They seem popular on US forums for their build quality and componets

No you cant run the rear speakers AND the amps, the speakers stop working entirely and the amp gets a signal. I tired this and the speakers just stopped

Does the audison have rca outputs? You could use the rear channels to the audison and then connect a small 2channel amp for just the rears? one of those Boss 2 channels for $59 would do the job.

I've actually in the past 2 weeks ordered and received a line level converter from David Navone's website. The site is reliable, processing is fast and David is really helpful for any questions you might have.

If the converters are even half as good as they're made out to be on the website then I think you're still doing pretty well. I'll let you know how it goes in my install in the next few weeks.

And apparently, you can run speakers off the HU at the same time as providing a signal to the LOC, but I haven't tried it as yet. Will let you know when I do.

Maz... yeah i thought of that as well, but I dun really want to have 3 amps in the car. I've got an old Sony amp I could use in theory to power rears.

Zed.. I'd be really interested to know how your install goes and the experiences you have. Which convertor did you buy?

When I get my new car, I may install the sub and sub amp first (the LRx) and see if the rear speakers work when the HU's rear outputs have to power the rear speakers AND serve as an input signal to the LRx (which has line level convertors).

If all goes well and does the job, then I may get a 2 channel convertor from my front SRx amp and speakers.

what brand was the LOC? i used a stinger one and there was no such problems (i.e. added a sub to an otherwise stock system).. the LOC will be much much less of a load than a speaker and shouldn't affect the speakers at all.

very simple 2 install, works a treat.. couldnt b happier with it

Good to see a few of you guys making use of speaker to line level converters, and proving that there are few if any SQ issues with running a system this way.

By the way, Jaycar's line level converter offers individual attentuation pots for each channel, which the Navone item does not. These may come in handy for some systems, and Jaycar is an Aussie company - which is something we should all support, right?

Damon,

Navone's line of convertors does include models with attenuation pots, as well as some models with built in high and low pass filters...

j/k

Oh well, there you go. I still reckon there's merit in supporting an Aussie company though! Especially considering you can buy these pretty much anywhere in Australia with ease.
