Howdy CAA!
I am purchasing a new car in a few months time. Plans of a VT Calais and flogging off my VS.
I have purchased a heap of serenity max s/deadner and paint, and just waiting for the right car to show up.
I want to upgrade my front stage! I have a budget of around $1k. The splits have to be 6.5" 2-ways. They will receive around 120wrms each.
Could you guys shoot at me some suggestions and RRP pricings.
I like the look of the Alpine X-series, but also heard alot of great comments to the Hertz splits.
Any suggestions welcome.
Cheers!

i used jaycar splits in mine
the way the speakers are angled (IE DIRECTLY INTO THE BLOODY MAP POCKET!!) means that to get decent sound, you'll have to do a bit of trim modding, I wouldnt want to do that to a calais.
but if you do, it'll probablt cost a good part of that $1k..

rheetard; i don't really want to cut up the interior so i will have to stick with the factory aiming, i might make a new seat out of mdf for the mid to sit in, but not seeing what is involved makes it hard
where did you mount the tweets? in the kicks or in the dash?

A/D/S splits, I love mine, but then again splits are a personal choice, so end the end it is up to you to choose what you think sounds best.
i was unable to audtion mine so the store i bought them from gave me a 'trial' period to see if i liked them...... and 7 months on i love them.
the splits are the A/D/S 346is 6.5in mids with 1in tweets RRP $1600, street is a little over $1200.
If you ever get a chance to audition any A/D/S gear go for it
Dave.

boston pro's, sound fantastic, and have heaps of power handling, will love the 120wrms your throwing at them. tweeters aren't as bright as the focals, and sound slightly better in my opinon.
rrp ~1k or so i think, not exactly sure.
kicks is probably the best place to mount ur tweeters, helps equalise left/right path lengths.
but thats just a generalisation, long wires and lots of bluetac and experimenting is inorder

gday
hrmm if u wanted to have a look at the focal utopia 165w's they can be had for about 800-850 from tonkins. RRP is about 1000
likewise dynaudio sys240s RRP for about 1000 n u could prolli get em for about 850 too from complete audio. The advantage of the dyns is that ull actually get to audition them as they have em on boards, and usually have a car wif them in.
I (think) complete audio also stock alpine f#1 gear, and u could give the f#1 splits an audition as complete audio have purchased the Alpine f#1 status mercedes. I think the RRP mite be a bit higher than the focals and dyns thos.

I have my tweets in the stock positions, but its angled.
I did a bit of testing with positioning and found that it sounded the same as having it in the door, next to the door opening handle
I would rather do something about the position of the woofer than the tweets. the way its in the doors is crap

Get either Focal Utopias or Dynaudio 240GT.
Hertz arent upto the above quality in my opinion.

Boston Pros and DLS Ultimates take loads of power and are great for SQ

Focals are a three piece with tweeters, mids and 6.5 inches and crossover and are $850 awesome quality but i'd have to go mid range MB QUARTS at the moment at $450 and they really handle quite well up loud you can really hear that mid and tweeter over the bass awesome!!!!!
