Well the Hertz range of speakers have caught my attention, but i cant find any information anywhere but on WAD.
I'm mainly interested in the HSK 165's, the HSK163 (3ways) and the HSK1600's.
basically has anyone used any of these before? and are they worth the money?
Here in SA the best speakers you can find to test are focal polly's.
any comments are welcome, 'cos i need splits soon!

Have you checked out
the Hertz web site. Or
RM Audio, the Hertz distributor? Or perhaps send a PM to RM Audio, no doubt Phil would love to answer your questions.
If all that fails, you could always google it.

Oliver, i can certainly answer any technical or pricing questions (hopefully ) you may have, so ask away if you need.
The HSK 165's have certainly been one of the most popular splits from the Hertz range. They now retail for $329, and imo are definetely worth the money. There have been quite a few posts on CAA in the past, so just do a search. I had a pair of these a while back. They are rated at a true 100wrms, frequency 50 Hz - 22 kHZ.
If you can afford to spend some more, i would strongly suggest to go for the HSK 1600. They are well worth the extra $$$. You get the HT 250 tweeter, more sophisticated x-over, power handling of 125wrms, and frequency response 43 Hz - 22 kHz.
It's difficult to buy a speaker you can't listen to, but hopefully some responses on these forums will help you out with the right decision.
Good luck.
Dom

Well, Im currnetly in the market for some new splits to replace the ones I currently have. Ive been looking around a fair bit and thought I shoudl go demo out these Hertz splits that many people on here are raving about. Didnt expect much for $300 odd splits but when I heard them I was greatly surpirsed. I was looking at spending a fair bit mor then $300 on splits but after hearing these I eneded up ordering a set from WAD. The mid bass on them sounded great.
If the Hertz 1600's are better Id love to hear them.

How about the HSK 163 3ways? Anyone have experience with those?
I'm interested in how they compare to the 1600's.
Dont have any stores out my way where I can demo them

The HSK 165's are indeed a VERY nice set of splits. They have awsome mid bass when set up semi well, and are very clear.

Yeah I'm a big fan of the HSK-165's. I used to have a pair in my old car with moderate power (cheap 70wrms amp) but they were excellent for the money. Havn't heard anything that sounds as good for that price, midbass was great as everyone will tell you but you really wanna get those doors sealed up to get them pumping. They're now in my bro's EL falcon and I still steal his car for a bit of a drive every now and then cause my gear ain't in yet.... few more weeks
Good Luck

I used to have some Alpine splits, then traded them in for Hertz ESK's... loved them!
The bought DLS magnesium's, traded them in and got the HSK's, loved them! I still have the HSK's and am in no hurry to upgrade for a while. Excellent speaker for the price.

i was led to belive the xover for both the HSK 163's and the 1600's are identical?

I'm the proud owner of a set of HSK1600's
I couldn't recommend them more highly. The main sonic difference I found between the HSK 165 and the HSK 1600 is in the tweeter, the upper midrange on my HT250 tweeters is more pronounced than the tweeters that come with the HSK165, and the top end seems to extend further.
No complaints with the midbass either These are the second best splits I've heard (only inferior to the Alpine X series ) although I haven't really heard many. Definately good value for money.

Oh yeah, and my crossover is only used for the Hertz Mill series splits as far as I know, and the magnet structure is friggin' huuuuuuuuuge, nearly had to rebuild my pods! The tweeter is also really deep... A pain to install, but well worth the trouble

AndyB: Are the HSK 165's in the EL Falcon in teh stock location in the doors or did you get pods for them? If they are in the doors, did you have to do any modifications to the door to get them in?

Crossovers used in the HSK1600 (Mille Series) is different to the crossovers that come with the HSK165 / HSK163 models.
MILLE and SPACE speakers are the top end series for SQ in the Hertz range and can be compared with Dyn, Focal etc.

I'm not 100% sure about the modifications cause my bro had them installed at a shop (told him I'd do it for him in a few weeks, he couldn't wait).
But they're behind the trims in the factory location with the tweets in the kick panels. It took a fair bit of convincing to get him to test the tweets in different spots cause he just wanted to chuck em in the factory spots but he came around and loved em in the kicks.
There wouldn't have been any major mods to the door, cause it only cost him $80 to have the woofers mounted and a HU put in. But as I said, havn't taken the trims off so I can't tell ya for sure. But I can say it shouldn't be too hard to get em in there.
Cheers

Thanks AndyB. Thats what I was hoping for. I was just worried about the depth as teh splits I have at the moment arent very deep compared to the Hertz. Hopefully they should fit fine.
