Has anyone ever heard a W7 or an IDMAX?
I am looking at getting a JL or and IDMAX but i dont know what is the better sub?
I have a JL Audio 1000/1 amp which is stable from 1.5-4 ohms. 1000rms and underated. all i need to know is, has anyone heard both the subs or even any of them, so i know what to buy. Im selling my 2x12 PH.gold titanium subs for one of these.
Pllllllllleeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaasssssssseeeeeeeee HELP.

IMO the IDMAX is a great sub.
you can feed it 500W - 2000W RMS
I've run 1 with 1600W RMS or 2 with 800W RMS each
I still regret selling 1 of the 2 i imported. But for SPL, i was able to hit the same score with 1 as with 2. (Just with more power to 1)
As for SQ, i found them to perform exceptionally well, whether it was sealed or ported.

My bet goes with the W7.
Insanely efficient and excellent all-round driver, can take 1500RMS comfortably with 2000RMS the entering of "the danger zone."
Excellent SQ and plenty of boom. Guys in dBdrag are hitting mid-150s with a pair.

they're a pretty even match up. you would probably find the w7 edging out the IDMAX in both SQ and SPL slightly. not too much in it i'd say.
it comes down to $$$ really. do you know the prices of both of them?
that might make your decision much easier.

Go IDMAX, heaps better value.
Also the JL is 13inchs so it has a cone area advantage. Compared to the 12w7 its very close.

No offense, but shouldn't this have been posted in "The Bass Zone", which is for discussing this sort of thing?
Mega-wattage subs are hardly SQ items in my oppinion. I could be wrong though.

The question appears SQ related not primarily SPL.

Well im only going by what has been stated by reviews, these to me being known as SQ subs. Not by sound but by reference.
How much power you drive into a speaker(s) doesn't determine what it's used for whether it be SPL or SQ. Ultimately, if you have 1000 or 2000 watts to fool around with doesn't automatically qualify you for SPL. i have 1000 RMS and why not use every bit of it? And with these two subs being known to me as SQ subs and within my range, i chose you guys to give me your advice. Can anyone convince me that one is better than the other? i am afterall paying for it.
1400 for the W7
850 for the IDMAX.
if there isn't going to be a huge difference then why pay the larger amount right?
guys, thanks for your help.
Im still waiting to be convinced further more though.
cheers

exactly!
IMO the extra $$$ isn't worth it
it's more like $800 for the IDMAX.. you could almost get 2 W7s
this might make you want a IDMAX more

i would go the IDMAX12D4

Its just that one person says one thing and then the other says something else. i heard that the W7 is the ants pants. But if other opinions are stronger then obviously its not worth spending it.
NOW, will my 1000/1 run 2 IDMAX parallel?
It looks like ill be going IDMAX.

IDMAX purely on cost factor...

after spending that much money on w7 ofcourse you would think it was ants pants
yah a 1000/1 would be nice thou you might aswell get 1. 2 x IDMAX(500rms each) would be around the same spl as 1 x IDMAX(1000rms). more importantly, getting 2 you'll probably lose some SQ.
if you got the $$$ 1 1000/1 per IDMAX would be sweet.

i would say that the W7 is better, but the difference is so minimal that it's not worth spending so much more.
(i'm starting to sound like a broken record now)
don't forget to check out the Adire Brahma, it's up there with these 2, but is happy to play lower

perhaps just another suggestion of sub to consider - JL w6v2? isn't this said to be in effect a w7 except rated at a lower power (and of course slightly lower SQ)?
not trying to steal ya thread - just add to it

Yeah, I went through all this not so long ago.
When I budgetted out my system I was happy to justify around $800 on a sub and I went an IDMAX12D2 (1ohm for the 1.400), was tossing up between that and an Brahma or even Dual PG Ti's for a while. Goals are primarily SQ so went a better quality single woofer setup, and the IDMAX slotted perfectly into the budget.
Personally I couldn't justify the extra for the 13W7 but depends on how much you wanna spend. Beautiful sub, and as long as you make the appropriate box you'll be dead happy with either I'd say
Good Luck
edit: beautiful amp.. lol.. beautiful sub I meant

This review from Mobile Electronics magazine may be of interest to anyone considering an IDMAX12.
